Sumarry: A fallen jewl shard has waken up Menomaru the son of the moth demon Hyoga. (Hyoga was sealed by Inu's father.) Menomaru needs Inuyasha tetsusaiga to unleash some power (I tend to be good about remembering stuff, but it was pretty hard too in this predictable movie.) In the mean time Menomaru's minions have taken control of kirara and duplicated Miroku's wind...

Good grief. Okay, for one, don't listen to all that garbage down there(metalwhatever29, etc...). They're just extremely bored because they have no lives and short attention spans-they clearly strayed away from the main subject. Seriously, guys... We're talking about THIS dvd, and reviewing IT. Not your monotonous subjective opinion on an entire anime series. You probably go to the InuYasha key-chains and bash on those too. Pathetic...

Anyway, for people who are interested in this dvd:
If you really enjoy Inuyasha, then you will like this movie. I'll truthfully say, it's not better than the 2nd or 3rd(the best one in my book!)movie, but it IS the very first Inuyasha movie and that makes it special in it's own way. For those of you who love to see them, there are a few classic Inuyasha and Kagome moments in this movie you don't want to miss. Actually, this is the first thing I ever watched of Inuyasha when they showed it on cartoon network, and I was totally absorbed. So if your a fan or a newcomer, I would definitely suggest to add this to your Inuyasha collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go Kagome!, February 3, 2005

This review is from: Inuyasha, The Movie 1 - Affections Touching Across Time (DVD)
Well wow! I bought this on a whim because I love the series and since I have no money to start my tv collection now I thought I'd start a little smaller. If you love the show, you won't be disappointed! The laughter, the tears, the utter frustration, its all there! Its also nice because it moves away from the tv show a little but still gives some explanation for the people who don't know anything about the characters. There are some awesome fight scenes and for girls like me, a few touching moments between Kagome and Inuyasha. Also nice, and the reason for my review title, Kagome actually does stuff! I found myself often screaming at her to do SOMETHING in the series...in the movie, she takes action a little more quickly, which is nice! No disappointments here, an excellent, jaw-dropping flick!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy!, September 17, 2004
This review is from: Inuyasha, The Movie 1 - Affections Touching Across Time (DVD)
I was so excited to find out that the movies were finally coming out dubbed. As much as I love watching undubbed anime and movies I still enjoy being able to pay attention to the artwork, body language of the characters, and small details that you tend to miss when you are reading subtitles. The artwork in this movie is flawless, even more beautiful than the series on TV. There is a lot of character development for everyone. It's even worth to sit through the beaituful ending song to see the little pictures that come up and the small ending sequence between Inuyasha and Kagome. A must buy for new and old fans alike. The entire first half hour or so tries to bring new fans up to date on what's going on (a good thing to do when doing a movie from a series, that way you can appeal to all audiences). An hour and forty minutes of great anime. I plan on buying the enxt movie and the Season One Boxset (yay!).

5.0 out of 5 stars If you're already an Inuyasha fan, you should buy it, September 14, 2004
This review is from: Inuyasha, The Movie 1 - Affections Touching Across Time (DVD)
* TAKE NOTE *

I threw a hissy fit when I read the Amazon editorial review that stated this DVD was not widescreen formatted (I first saw the film in a theatre, and even though the animation is patchy at times there are some great cinematic shots that should only be seen on widescreen). NEVER FEAR! ^_^ DESPITE WHAT IS WRITTEN ABOVE, THE DVD *IS* WIDESCREEN!

If you're an Inuyasha fan, you should buy this movie, even if you already have the Japanese version. The story is coherent and fun, and all members of Inu-tachi get a little character development (and suffer angst on the way!). Particular attention is given to Kagome and Inuyasha's tentative relationship. Fluffy-fans beware, there is precious little Sesshoumaru.

Others will sum up the plot for you, let me just say that there are nice extras. You can choose between English or Japanese language tracks, and additional material include the trailer for the second (dubbed) Inuyasha movie, several original Japanese trailers for this first one, character sketches from the film production, and a Japanese television program (subbed only) that uses clips from the first 50 or so episodes to promote the film. The program is narrated by different characters and gives the basic outline of the Inuyasha story up to Inuyasha's discovery of the Backlash Wave (Jaken and Rin are especially cute together), and ties in the plot of the film.

A final note on the dub -- there are a few cheesy moments (Kaede's yechy "ye's" among them), but on the whole it is very well done. Monk Miroku's English voice actor is a scream, and he possesses near perfect dry, comic timing.

A good price, and a very worthy DVD! ^_^

5.0 out of 5 stars This movie rocks!, August 31, 2004

First, I must note, that the character's faces are drawn a little differently in the movies (compared to the series) and I didn't particularly like it, but the special computer effects and plot of the movie are really great.

Inuyasha+Kagome fans will "awwwwww" when they see how the movie really focuses on their relationship (he kisses her hurt finger, and later tells her how much he needs her). And Kagome looks really awesome when she gets possessed and flies around shooting lazers out of her fingertips at Inuyasha. Kirara also gets possessed and attacks Sango, but it'll bring a tear to your eye how she forces herself to stop (awww--true friendship!). And a little of Inuyasha's father's history is shown as the main plot of the story involves a demon once locked away by him that gets free. Moths are gross.

The soundtrack also rocks! Especially the opening title track. I would suggest buying that also (as a true fan would). I can't wait til the next movie is released!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Inuyasha Movie, August 4, 2006
By
Dylan (Pennsylvania, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Inuyasha, The Movie 1 - Affections Touching Across Time (DVD)
I love the show Inuyasha. The first Inuyasha movie is called Affections Touching Across Time. The plot is fairly simple, yet exciting. When Kagome's arrow broke the Sacred Jewel, a shard awakened Menomaru, the son of a powerful demon named Hyoga. Hyoga was defeated by Inuyasha's father and his great power was laid dormant thanks to one of Inuyasha's father's fangs. Menomaru and his followers attack our heros and ultimately break the seal around Hyoga's power.

As Menomaru transforms into the new Hyoga, Kagome and Kirara are being controlled by his followers. Kagome turns on Inuyasha and Kirara on Sango. As the new Hyoga awakens, Kagome becomes trapped in her world. Can she get back to Inuyasha and help him defeat Hyoga?

Elsewhere, Miroku has his Wind Tunnel copied by one of Hyoga's followers and the two battle. Kirara helps another follower of Hyoga to fight Sango. Can Sango awaken Kirara and break Hyoga's hold? Will Miroku's Wind Tunnel hold out against such a powerful foe?

This movie is great. The title is Affections Touching Across Time because Kagome and Inuyasha can still hear one another from different time dimensions all thanks to the Sacred Tree which began their story. I enjoyed this movie because it explains a bit about Inuyasha's father's past and the Trees of Ages. However, what really steals the show are the bonds between Kagome and Inuyasha, Miroku and Sango, and Sango and Kirara that ultimately leave our heros victorious.

Still, two major flaws of this movie are the lack of Sesshomaru and Naraku. Sesshomaru does have a few lines, and I love how he speaks to Kikyo, but not nearly enough. Naraku is not even in the movie once! Other than that, this was a great Inuyasha movie which I recommend to all Inuyasha fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good ; Mystery of Kagome's Father Solved?, October 19, 2004
This review is from: Inuyasha, The Movie 1 - Affections Touching Across Time (DVD)
Inuyasha: Affections Touching Across Time is a very good movie. Not knock-your-socks-off WOW! GREAT! The character renderings are different from the anime. In this film they are not as well done, and certainly inconsistent. In some frames they are perfect, in others a little off. The backgrounds are excellent, though; I am sure many backgrounds were just borrowed from the series.

In Affections, Inuyasha is cruder and meaner to Kagome and Shippo than he is in the series. It is not until just past the middle of the movie that the great stuff starts to happen. Two powerful subplots, one involving Kirara's bond with Sango, the other Kagome's bond with Inu (hence the film's title), had me constantly removing my glasses because of the tears pouring out of my eyes.

The main villian Menomaru and his two hench-wenches Ruri and Hari are foreign demons from "the continent." (China) The story is nicely tied in with the Mongol invasion in 1281 that threatened all of Japan's culture and was stopped only by a sudden and tremendous typhoon. In the movie, the Mongols were accompanied by demons, and were fought off by Inuyasha's powerful dog-demon father. Menomaru is the vanquished demon Hyoga's son, and he is back for revenge.

Unfortunately, Menomaru is a lame villian. He has moth feelers and uses moths to steal souls to make him stronger. He looks just like the villian in Sailor Moon's Promise of the Rose. His formidable female helpers are the real baddies. Oh, they are bad. And they look gorgeous.

Now, about Kagome's Dad. He is never shown or mentioned in the anime. But in the closing credits, you can clearly see a very young (sixteen or so) Kagome's mom dressed as a maiko, or apprentice geisha. The father of the children could be a wealthy patron. That is how she supports the family and her father. It is not only Kagome's ojiisan who is keeping the traditions of Japan alive.

Speaking of extras, the extras in Affections are amazing. The Japanese closing credits show the pictures (of what happened after the movie ended) larger than the English ones. There is a long feature called All About Inuyasha. It goes through the entire series from start to finish and is narrated by several characters, including Myoga, Hachi, Kaede, and Rin.

Also, Sesshoumaru and Kikyo meet for the first time in this film. Although their exchange is brief, I am not giving anything away by including this short, great line, one of the best in the film:

Jaken: Lord Sesshoumaru, is it wise to let that woman live?

Sesshoumaru: You fool, she is dead.

Jaken: HUUUUUHHHHH?????

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best!, November 19, 2004
This review is from: Inuyasha, The Movie 1 - Affections Touching Across Time (DVD)
The movie contains all your favorite characters: Inu Yasha, Sango, Miroku, Shippou, Kirara, Kaede, Kikyou, Sesshoumaru, & Kagome. In the movie, cute little Kirara turns evil & joins Menomaru, Hari & Ruri. Sango fights Hari to get Kirara back & Miroku fights Ruri for stealing his ability to use a wind tunnel so basically it's wind tunnel vs. wind tunnel. There are also soul stealing moths & Menomaru brain washes Kagome & Inu Yasha has to relive his horrible past when Kagome shoots him with an arrow just as Kikyou did. But it's when Menomaru inherites his fathers ability's that their ture strength is tested. And of course naturally Miroku hasn't changed a bit when it comes to women.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Inuyasha, The Movie 1 - Affections Touching Across Time (DVD)
The movies starts with the Kagome instroducing herself and the others who are fighting a scropion and then Kagome shows and tells Inuyasha where the sacred is. Then they have lunch that Kagome made and then she asked Inuyasha if he likes it and he tells her to shut up because he is eating and then Kagome asked him again if it was good, then he says that there was something missing so he checks in the bag and brings out a cup of noodles that makes Kagome mad so she tells him to sit!

Killa then starts crying and runs away and Sango and the Monk go after her to meet these two ladies who have poision her and she can;t remember Sango. They take Killa and one of the ladies copys the Monks Wing Tunnel into her arm. Somewhere else Kagome runs into Kikyo on her way home and then hides. She starts thinking that Kikyo and Inuyasha still love each other when he shows up ans kisses her finger that she cut against the a tree. Then Menomoru shows up, Piosion's Kagome and stabs Inuyasha then goes to pick up Inuyasha's sword that he can;t pick up because it has rejected him. He then posseessed Kagome into shooting Inuyasha with an arrow. Kikiyo then appears abd tell Kagome that she it an outsider, that she has to go home and that she hurt Inuyasha. The monk and Sango kill the two assiants of Menomaru and gets Killa back. Kagome is depressed bceause the well has been filled up with roots so that she can;t get back to Inuyasha. Kagome then touches the Sacred Tree and then she ccould feel Inuyasha. He hugs her and tell her that he needs her that she should come back. Kagome comes backa and they destroy the Moth Man.

I loved this movie and I can't wait intil the next one comes out!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Inuyasha, The Movie 1 - Affections Touching Across Time (DVD)
I recently got this movie, and I must say, it was worth every penny. The animation is beautiful, especially when compared to it's anime series counterpart. You can choose to watch the movie either in English or Japanese, with or without subtitles. There are character sketches, japanese movie trailers, and extras galore. You could spend well over an hour just on the extras.

The movie itself is fairly good, with all the action and humor we've come to expect from InuYasha. There are a few tender moments, but not so much that it makes you sick. There isn't too much language, but more than most parents would want their younger children watching. Also, after the credits, there is a bonus scene that will have you rolling on the floor.
