3.0 out of 5 stars It's not a bad DVD box set, but it could've been better
This set includes five DVDs that encompass all twenty-seven episodes in the first season. The first three discs contain five episodes, the fourth disc contains six episodes, and the fifth disc contains six episodes and bonus features.

For special features, there is a character relationship guide, a collection of trailers for Inuyasha: Affections Touching...

You cant get a good perspective that way....please readers...pay those bias remarks no mind and take head of a real review like the one in the spotlight and my own.

This season is awesome!! At first i was unsure of Inu Yasha having only seen a few episodes and not sure what it was about but then having gotten more experiance with it and seeing more episodes i fell in love and got this boxset of the first season. It is a wonderful series filled with what all amimes should have...action, comedy, romance, and great edge of your seat battels!! No one battels as fine as inu yasha and no characters are more deep than what you find in this series. Each character posses a flaw that contributes to the series and their character making it a fantastic anime.

If you are a fan of the works of Rumiko Takehashi then you are sure to fall in love. Inu Yasha i s a series you cannot go wrong with! I have watched A LOT of anime and Inu Yasha is definatly a favorite of mine.

What is alos great about this set that it comes in the original japanese with the english subtitles which are very accurate in their translation. VIZ is def. a well renowed translator and ditributor of goood anime. You can def. trust thier translations. If you dont like japanese then you can watch it in good ol' english and laugh away as Inu Yasha tries to clobber shippo or tries to understand Kagome. There are no too many special features but you can watch the beginning and ending with out the text which is pretty cool and you get a cast and relationship chart.

This season is great!! Do not listen to those bias twits! They havent seen enough to truly love the series! Before the the ones on this page this box set had a perfect review with 5 stars! Read more reviews if you still need convincing...buut believe me....Inu Yasha is good....no doubt about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent packaging, excellent story, could use extras, September 19, 2004
This review is from: Inuyasha - Season 1 (DVD)
Other reviewers have raved about this DVD series. It is a great series, full of action, comedy, and romance. It is good for anyone (though a bit violent for younger viewers).

The packaging is great too. Viz finally figured out that a boxed set shouldn't take up too much space. Anyone who has the Ranma DVD sets knows they take up a LOT of shelf space, to say nothing for the people who couldn't wait and purchased the 3-episode-per-disc Inu Yasha DVDs. This packaging is more compact, and really aimed at the people who are serious about anime. Thanks for the trend to reduce boxed set sizes!

The 5 discs have no extras except for the last disc, which has textless opening/closings and a character relationship chart. There is obvious room for extras on DVDs 1-4 since DVD 5 has 6 episodes PLUS the extras. Hopefully Viz will use the space when they get around to releasing Season 2 as a boxed set.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent start to any Inuyasha fan's collection, July 26, 2006

This review is from: Inuyasha - Season 1 (DVD)
The season 1 DVD box set of Inuyasha contains the first 27 episodes of the show. These episodes can be viewed in either English or Japanese. Subtitles are only in English. This boxset is in my opinion a great start for any fan of Inuyasha who wants to collect the episodes.

Specifically, this box set focuses mainly on introducing the main characters of the show. The journey begins! This boxset is nice because it's MUCH cheaper than if you were to buy the episodes seperately. The extras are lacking, but I never really minded because I only bought this for the episodes themselves. Inuyasha is my second favorite anime. The story is very interesting as are the characters. I recommend this box set to any fan of Inuyasha.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is VIZ Media's fault..., March 26, 2006
This review is from: Inuyasha - Season 1 (DVD)
Inuyasha Season 1 Box Set has to be reviewed in two parts:

- About the content (the Inuyasha series), I had watched it before buying this box set. I can say that these first 27 episodes are only a set-up for the story. They introduce Inuyasha and Kagome Higurashi in the first episode, Shippo in the ninth, Miroku in the sixteenth, and Sango in the 24th. Kikyo appears in the first episode, then she comes back to life in the fifteenth. Naraku appears in the eighteenth, and Sesshomaru in the fifth. Also, it sets the beginning of the romantic relationship between Kagome and Inuyasha in episode 13. All these points, among others, create the main plot of Inuyasha TV series. It is worthy to mention that Rumiko Takahashi's unique comedy and romantic style is easily identified in this series, which makes Inuyasha a world-class anime. So far, the most interesting parts in this season are the relationship between Inuyasha and Kagome, the intromision of Kikyo in the story and the Inuyasha's seeking vengeance against Naraku.

- About the product (the box itself), I expected a better box. It is made of simple carton: it is like the cover of a notebook, whereas ADV Films and Funimation make theirs of thick carton, like cases for store products. Consequently, I need to be much more careful with this box in order not to damage it. In addition, VIZ Media sells Inuyasha in volumes of 3 episodes each, which is considerably expensive. I bought this box so I can save money, but compared to other anime companies, VIZ Media does not offer a high-quality product. The discs are not well used, as VIZ Media could have included more extras in the first discs while the last one does -this was mentioned before in another review.

Inuyasha is one of my top favorite anime series because of the plot which is set in this season. However, the reason I give this product 4 stars is due to VIZ Media. This company is not really the best one you can find in the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars As it should be viewed., March 20, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Inuyasha - Season 1 (DVD)
I love InuYasha, and if you love this show, the DVD's are for you! See, when it comes right down to it, with the recap at the beginning and the preview at the end, there's really only 15-20 minutes or so of new content per episode. So, with the DVD's you can fast-forward through the boring parts and go through 4 or 5 episodes in an hour.
However, the real bonus to buying the DVD's is the sub-titles! I love seeing what the characters say before the script is changed to match the characters' movements. Most of the time the words are the same, but sometimes the English audio is really different from the English sub-titles.
There's very little extra-content, but then, I don't really care about that sort of thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new Twist on an old fairy Tale, May 21, 2005
By
This review is from: Inuyasha - Season 1 (DVD)
When I first started to watch Inuyasha on T.V. I thought what in the world were the Japanese thinking? But as I started to watch I become interested. Soon after I bought the box set because I wanted to know what started this all. Even if it does display an Alice in Wonderland fairy tale it has its own twist. When you first start out you have Inuyasha a half demon trying to become something he's not. A Full demon. This half demon wants us to think that he can talk the talk and walk the walk but after Kagome comes in to the picture we see that Inuyasha slowly starts to turn around changing his mind about things. But when you mix a young fox Demon, A demon slyer, a two tailed cat demon, a perverted monk, and a flea that fleas, and a brother who is always up to no good you get one wild time. I would say give this Amine a shot before you say you don't like it. In Truth I didn't like it at first but after watching it more and more I started to fall in love with it and can't stop watching it. So They have given some old fairy tales a new twist in their own way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Check this show out even if you think you don't like anime!, October 10, 2004

Anime Fan (Ann Arbor, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Inuyasha - Season 1 (DVD)
This has to be the best show I've ever seen, and I haven't been this interested in any TV show since elementary school. (I'm now 26.) I saw a few scattered episodes on Cartoon Network last year, but left with the impression that it was the strangest show I'd ever seen. This summer I saw a few more, and while it IS still one of weirdest shows I've seen, I got so hooked that I couldn't miss a single episode that they aired. Then I had to buy the boxed set.

The show is kind of a cross between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Alice in Wonderland. Fans of Harry Potter or Star Wars would probably like it. Kagome (a modern Japanese girl) falls through a well and ends up in ancient Japan, where she meets Inuyasha (a half-human half-dog-demon guy). They join up with a fox-demon child, a lecherous monk with a black hole in his hand, and a demon slayer with a giant boomerang, as they try to keep the shards of the powerful Shikon jewel from the evil demons.

The series fills out with extreme sibling rivalry, love triangles, and developing relationships and romances between the characters. Often, good characters are shown to have weaknesses, and evil characters are shown to have a soft side. Of course, the fight scenes are pretty exciting, and the hideous evil demons are pretty amazing, too! The series flashes between action, romance, drama, and comedy, so you don't get bored.

You might be reluctant to try more anime if you've only seen Dragonball Z. Inuyasha is much more complex, with an intricate plot and interesting characters. The backgrounds are beautiful, the music is good, and there are times when you laugh out loud. One note--this show can be rather violent and bloody, and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under about 11. (Cartoon Network gives it a TV-14, but it is much milder than their other TV-14 shows.) The violence is not glorified, so in some ways it is less disturbing than Looney Toons.

The price is great. With 27 episodes, it comes to $3 per episode. You also get to see the opening theme (not shown on TV), and you get the option to see it in Japanese with English subtitles. The dub is good, though--and being a cartoon you don't have the live-action dub problem of voices not matching mouth movements.

This is definitely not something you want to miss. I highly recommend this boxed set.

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY! hopefully more season sets to come..., December 16, 2004
This review is from: Inuyasha - Season 1 (DVD)
It's about time Inuyasha was released in season box sets. This show is wonderful- funny, lots of action, detailed and interesting characters, and wonderful animation. Please buy this set so Viz will do the entire series like this and not in those awful piecemeal single dvds. 3 episodes a disc, especially in a series as long as this one (I think its 167 episodes?) is much too expensive and bulky for most of us. No wonder so many people buy the illegal import sets. They could fit 5 or 6 episodes a disc and still have plenty of room for special features, it's really not fair. Imagine having about 55 individual dvds of Inuyasha taking up shelf space at $20 each- you do the math. Yikes! This box set is very nice, the first 9 discs are compressed into 5 with perfect quality and some cool special features. The box itself is durable and looks great. The only thing I would ask is more special features in future sets. Please, please release the entire Inuyasha series in this format!! I will buy them all if they come out in box sets like this!

4.0 out of 5 stars Inuyasha: Great!!! VIZ has the problems, April 4, 2007
This review is from: Inuyasha - Season 1 (DVD)
Inuyasha is one of the absolute greatest animes out there, I don't care what anyone else says. It may be technically an animated soap opera, but if you look past that it doesn't matter. Basicly season 1 introduces the characters, the conflict, and the people you will never see again until some filler arcs, but they're still fun to see.

As much as I enjoyed it, I had a conflict: they cut some stuff out. VIZ media removed about 2-3 minutes of episode 21 because it was longer than the others, since it was an hour long special. Most people wouldn't think much of this, but the missing scenes were as follows:

1. Sota(Kagomes brother)flips out a little when Kagome says Inuyasha hugged her (funny)
2. The person watching is put under the impression Royakan (a friendly demon under Naraku's control) is slain instead of knocked out.
3. You never see what happens to the jewel shards that were implanted in Royakans head

So besides the missing scenes, it's a great buy. If you're an anime fan, don't miss out on this series.
