4.0 out of 5 stars A great Bariatric 'Rollator' with a 500lb weight limit
I have been studying and searching for a "Rolling Walker", also known as a "Rollator", that is big enough for me.

I am 6'0", 370lbs, with a waist size of 56-58. (Hate typing that, but you need it to see if this will work for you).

This 'rolling walker' has a 500lb weight limit, the seat width is 18", and the narrowest point (between the handle bars)...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, but one design flaw
Sturdy and heavy. I believe the frame is steel rather than aluminum like my last one. Seat is lower than my last one, too. This is more comfortable for me because I am only 5'3", but because of the design the seat does not have a catch when it is lifted up to use the basket underneath or to fold it up. The heavy wooden seat flops around when I load it in and out of my...

4.0 out of 5 stars A great Bariatric 'Rollator' with a 500lb weight limit, August 8, 2009
This review is from: Invacare Bariatric Rollator (Health and Beauty)
I have been studying and searching for a "Rolling Walker", also known as a "Rollator", that is big enough for me.

I am 6'0", 370lbs, with a waist size of 56-58. (Hate typing that, but you need it to see if this will work for you).

This 'rolling walker' has a 500lb weight limit, the seat width is 18", and the narrowest point (between the handle bars) is 22.5 inches - use my size as a guide to see if this will work for you.

You can change the height of the handle-bars very simply in one inch steps - setting this up correctly for myself; you can add 3 more inches to the handle-bar height. I can sit very comfortably, nothing rubs against my legs, or body - best guess is I have roughly 2-3 inches of space around me when sitting. When walking, my arms are going straight down to the handle-bars - not too narrow, or too wide.

It feels like you are pushing an empty shopping cart - but with the added benefit of having your own chair right there with you to sit in at any moment! It does have a small basket underneath for small bits and pieces (book states 11lb weight limit).

I have only had this for 8 days - so this review is simply my first thoughts on the unit. This is my first 'Rollator', so I have nothing to compare it against (other than what I have learned by reading).

I only gave this four stars as I do believe there are a couple of better units out there (my insurance paid for this - so my choices were limited) - The Mighty Mack by NOVA ( Nova Ortho-Med Mighty Mack 4216 Rolling Walker - Blue ) - this would be my number one choice if I was going to pay for it.

That said I DO believe this is a great product! I feel very safe while walking with it, or sitting on it. It IS big enough for me! I do not feel like it is fragile, or that if I were to fall, it would break!

The CONS:

As the handle-bars are adjustable, they have a bit of wiggle-room, so the net result is they will have roughly 2-3 degrees of swivel play in them, regardless of how much you tighten the lock-bolt - this is caused by the design of the adjustment method - you have holes in both the handle-bars themselves, and in the mounting bar, since the holes themselves are big enough for the lock-bolt to slide freely through (with no tools) this creates just enough gap for the swivel effect - it's not much, but it is notice-able.

When you flip the seat up (to get at the basket, or when folding the unit) there is no latch to hold it up, causing the seat to flop around.

Lastly, when you fold the unit to put it in a car, trunk, etc - there is no latch or anything to keep it in the folded position - again, causing a slight hassle.

I know of no other issues with this Rollator.

Yes, it does weigh in at 26lbs, but I have not found any other unit that will carry at least 400lbs, with at least an 18" seat that weighs less.

The unit comes with very little set-up needed! Removing plastic from pieces and wheels, putting the basket in place, and lastly, locking the back rest in place, and putting the handle-bars in position is all that is required - I did it all sitting down, with no tools, in 10-15 minutes (I also read all the paperwork in that time).

The model number is 66500 (also known as IN66500 or INV66500) and it only comes in the one shade of blue. It has a 3yr limited warranty.

It has all the needed features:

8 inch wheels (largest available)

Wide seat - 18 inches

Basket

EZ to use brakes that also lock

It's adjustable for height, and folds down for carrying

In closing, while I plan to add more in time, these are my first thoughts. I did not get this through Amazon due to my health insurance, but if I were to need to buy it, I would have bought it here! While I like the "Mighty Mack" better, it might have been overkill for my needs - 20" seat, wider unit overall - which means harder to get through doorways, and it weighs a bit more, and is a bit more costly - but, I would think well worth the trade-offs.

The model #66500 is a good Rollator and will suit my needs, and is strong enough for my size.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mobility worth getting this product!, May 18, 2007
This review is from: Invacare Bariatric Rollator (Health and Beauty)
I previously owned a Rollator that broke. As happy as I was initially, this one is far more compatible to me. Any unfortunate delivery problems should not outweigh your freedom. I found this easy to get in my apartment and it only took me 15 minutes to unpack and do the minor assembling. I will recommend this to everyone who will benefit from one.

5.0 out of 5 stars So thankful for this walker!, May 18, 2010

I am usually alone and my limited mobility has been very debilitating. As a result of weakness & pain in my back & legs, & fear of falling as a result with just using a cane (which had happened a couple times) I was walking less & less. Of course that made me even worse! I had purchased another walker rated for 500 lbs (I am steadily losing but currently at about 380 lbs) & the first day using it, it broke! I actually fell flat on my face in a gravel parking lot as a result, but other than it hurting a bit & being very embarrassed, I was OK. Thankfully my son was visiting & with me when it happened. The other company promptly returned my monies, but I didn't trust that walker anymore. The other walker was aluminum & as has been said here, this one is much sturdier. I don't think it is 36 lbs though as stated, as I can lift it into my van & out. My son actually found this walker & ordered it for me. (Yep, I have an awesome son! :)

This walker also has a very simple & easy to use wheel lock for when you are sitting or just want to keep it stationary, which they other more expensive one didn't. I love that feature! Also I am very short & the lowest setting on this one works well for me. The other one even at the lowest setting was higher.

I am so thankful for this walker as it has given me so much greater mobility! I felt so stuck before as I couldn't walk very far to try and get myself stronger. I was in a "catch 22" situation. But now I can walk & sit as needed & then walk some more. Where I live there are laundry facilities but you have to walk slightly uphill to get to it & it is a small area with no seating. In addition to the difficulty of trying to make it to the laundry room with my cane, also getting my laundry there made it almost impossible for me. It is a small town & the only other coin laundry is in a very touristy area close-by & has no handicap access (can you believe that!). So trying to get my laundry done was a very upsetting & frustrating ordeal for me. A couple days ago, I loaded up my laundry basket & a stack of folded linens on the seat of the walker & headed to the laundry room. Long story short I was able to get it all there & done. I am almost in tears I am so thankful that I now have the ability to get things like that done as well as be able to walk & sit as needed to get myself stronger again. I am no longer in a catch 22!!! I can & will keep working to get stronger & this walker & God's help are my tools to do that! The only negative thing I can say about this walker as someone else mention there is a bit of movement in the handles, but it doesn't cause any problems. At this price it's an excellent value too!!! Tomorrow 2 of my sisters are coming from a neighboring state to visit me for the day. In times past when I got visitors I would encourage them to explore the cute town while I waited in the car or sat somewhere. Tomorrow I am going to be able to explore a bit with them too!!! I have tears in my eyes & a lump in my throat right now... This walker is literally a God-send for me...

Sturdy and heavy. I believe the frame is steel rather than aluminum like my last one. Seat is lower than my last one, too. This is more comfortable for me because I am only 5'3", but because of the design the seat does not have a catch when it is lifted up to use the basket underneath or to fold it up. The heavy wooden seat flops around when I load it in and out of my trunk. I am trying to figure out a way to make a catch for the seat that will not decrease its functionality. If I wasn't hauling it around everywhere, this probably wouldn't bother me.

This thing is very strong. The only detraction is it can be just a half inch or so too wide to fit easily on some bus lifts. But it does just fine on the great majority of them.

This is my third rollator and the best yet. I'm 6'6" and 350 pounds and this product handles it well. If you are heavy and/or have wide hips, then this will work well for you. I like the wider tires which are more resistant to being mired in soft soils and the brakes are an improvement from my previous one. Be advised that this is much heavier than the lighter weight aluminum units.

Bought this for my husband who weighs almost 350 pounds and is about 6'2" (he has Parkinson's disease). Nursing home recommended a wheelchair, but I think if he had one he would never try to walk again, plus our house not wheelchair accessible. They did have him using a regular walker at the nursing home, but I thought this would be better and easier for him, so I ordered it. Very FAST delivery. I ordered late Friday night and it was delivered Monday afternoon! I wasn't sure how hard it would be to put together, so asked my neighbor to help husband unpack and assemble. However, despite the fact that the box was quite banged up in delivery, everything was there, and I think basically all the neighbor did was remove the box, put the handles in and tighten them, and put on the basket. My husband likes it very much, it is easy to handle, and it is very sturdy. Best of all, when he gets tired, he can sit and rest. I can't lift much anymore, but my husband was able to lift and try to put in the back of our car (Chevy HHR). I think it will fit, but we may need to put the car's back seat down. We were in a hurry so we just left it home instead of fussing any more with it that day. I think though that it would fit if he had turned it sideways (and removed some of the junk from car!). It did roll fairly easily over the bumpy places in our yard.

I've been using this walker for over 5 years. The brakes gave out long ago - luckily they are not essential. One of the wheels came off and my brother-in-law had to drill some holes to put a screw in sideways ( the original holes were stripped). Over all I would still recommend it. It makes a huge difference to my mobility. I don't lose my balance and fall, and I can sit whenever needed.

I ordered the Invacare Bariatric Rollator on Wednesday afternoon Jan. 5, 2011 and the item was delivered on Friday Jan. 7, 2011. The item is great better then what I expected it to be. It is so much better then my old standard walker.

The service by the company I purchased the item through is superb. It was to be delivered between the 11th and the 14th and it came on the 7th. I would recommend this item and company to anyone.

I found it very difficult to unpack from the shipping carton. In fact, it was almost impossible for me to even get it in the house. It came in this huge box! I did not expect it to be shipped with so much of it pre-built. The shipping box was coming apart, which did not make it any easier to remove the rollator from the box. Around here UPS knocks on the door once & runs for their truck. Well, I'm disabled and since they choose to deliver to the carport door there is no way I can get to the door before they are several blocks down the street. This time the huge box leaning against the door that I use to leave the house was a BIG problem. I had to force the door open enough that I could sort of slide the box our of the doorway while dealing with 2 steps to get out the door..

Due to family problems and increased problems with my feet/legs I have not really tried the rollator yet. But hope to be able to start using it a little every day and slowly get back my leg strength. I am pleased with the looks and I do think it will be useful.
