I liked how the boys thought they were to big for trick or treating. It was easy to read and had a good story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Absurdly Funny "Invasion" of Pie Ingredients March 26, 2013
By Grampy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
"The Invasion of the Pumpkin People" by Steven Tuttle is so absurd it's funny... seriously. The whole premise is so preposterous it makes you laugh. It actually is somewhat on the same level as the "Goosebumps" series so popular with younger readers, and that's not a bad level to be on.

Twelve year old Jake planned to go trick-or-treating on Halloween, even though his best friend Frank thought they were both a little too old for that "kid" stuff. But as usual, Jake had a plan. Also as usual, Jake's plan hit a little roadblock.

This time that roadblock was in the form of aliens who looked just like pumpkins, but with eyes and the ability to telepathically communicate. The boys and the alien pumpkins had a little disagreement over using the boys' brains to power their spaceship, but with a little luck and a lot of pluck they managed to make it through the evening, and still get a fair amount of candy.

Your young reader will in all likelihood find this story to be quite amusing; it might even rank as one of their favorites for awhile. I recommend this without reservation for youngsters from 4th or 5th grade, up to perhaps high school freshmen.

Even younger children might enjoy it, but will probably need someone to read it to them. I don't believe the presence of these particular "aliens" will scare them or cause nightmares. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they turn down that piece of pumpkin pie after dinner! All things considered, this is a cute story, in spite of -- or because of -- its absurdity.
