5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!, May 26, 1998

This review is from: Inventions!: 30 Rube Goldberg Postcards (Paperback)
A favorite book for kids and adults. If you enjoyed the game "mousetrap" or trying to figure out how things work - you'll like these crazy pictures of Rube Goldberg "machines". A great way to exercise your imagination and inventive skills!

4.0 out of 5 stars Rube Goldberg, August 21, 2010

This review is from: Inventions!: 30 Rube Goldberg Postcards (Paperback)
These postcards are the next best teaching tool to *creating* an actual Rube Goldberg contraption! The colorful illustrations of the machines on the front are complemented by the lettered step-by-step "solutions" on the back. I taped over the solutions on the back and laminated them to circulate among my fourth grade science class and assigned them to write their own steps for the way they think the gadgets work. (All this as part of a simple/compound machines unit.)Four-star instead of five-star rating?: When the kids are able to look at the "answers", they are sometimes a little frustrated because some of the gadgets are a little outdated (cigar holders, certain kinds of pumps, etc.)and some of the action/reactions RG describes in his write-ups are implied rather than obvious. But all that aside, these are great, for teaching or just for people who love tinkering!
