Editorial Reviews

Review

Every security practitioner's library should contain a good, current book on investigations. This one is the best we've seen in years. …Readers will enjoy Tips and Traps which occur throughout the book.
-Security Letter, Vol. 35, No. 17, Oct. 2005

Product Description

Confronted with the opposing demands of loss prevention, asset protection, and ever-expanding employee rights issues, security professionals, lawyers, and human resource directors need to understand the process of investigation and know how to properly conduct internal investigations. Investigations in the Workplace targets both the private security professional and the consumer of corporate investigative services. The text provides the tools necessary to serve the reader who is contemplating an internal investigation for the first time, or one who conducts them regularly. The book's modern case studies, statistics, checklists, and references make it an authoritative reference on the subject.

This book is great foundational setting for new and you investigators. This book is recommended reading by professional organizations. This book should be on the book shelf as reference for an security/safety fact finder. I have been to official training hosted by the FBI and this book really brought me back to basics.

5.0 out of 5 stars James E. Whitaker, CFE, CPP, PCI, May 3, 2009
This book is an absolute must read for both the experienced and novice investigator or case manager, as well as anyone in a corporate environment who may be seeking information on Workplace Investigations and what exactly that entails. The book is concise, informative and extremely well written with meticulous detail, supported by legal research. It is obvious Mr. Ferraro has a wealth of knowledge and more importantly, years of personal experience in the field of investigations. I would (and do in fact)recommend this book without hesitation.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for Workplace Investigators, November 3, 2006
While this book is currently used as a text book at over 20 universities and colleges, it is more than a text book. It is a must read for anyone tasked with conducting or managing workplace investigations. I have yet to read a more informative or useful book on this subject. As an investigator and part-time fiction writer, I use my copy all the time.

Employee prosecution is expensive and time consuming. It is not an effective deterrent and rarely provides an acceptable return on investment. The decision to prosecute should be made for business reasons only. "e;
