Book Description

New York Times Bestseller!
This beautifully written, heartfelt memoir touched both readers and reviewers. A true tale of self discovery, ghosts, slavery, murder, family and perseverance, this remarkable story follows 40-something Laine, an ordinary mom, who moves with her family to an 18th century Maryland plantation and wakes up suddenly psychic, and the journey she makes to find herself again.

EDITORIAL REVIEWS:
"Laine writes that she is 'not an angel or a saint, a demon or a witch. I'm just a mom who goes to church, volunteers at her children's elementary school, and regularly burns pizza. I am completely ordinary.' Laine may be ordinary in some ways, but she tells an extraordinary story."
––Kevin James Shay, Post-Newsweek, Author of Walking through the Wall

"Laine's talents are well suited to helping historians, historical writers, taphophiles, cold case detectives, and missing persons organizations. Watching how her gifts affect her family is its on intriguing narrative."

––Dr. Katherine Ramsland, Psychology Today

"'No one is unimportant," Laine says. She teaches us that love binds us to the next world. God is right there and answers prayers of all people, living or dead."

––Janet Bernice, Ancestry Magazine

DESCRIPTION:
Who knew Laine Crosby, former marketing executive at The Weather Channel, had the gift of being a Psychic Medium?  Not even Laine, that is, until she moved from Atlanta to the property of an eighteenth century Maryland plantation and woke up talking to a former slave buried in her backyard!  Besides going through culture shock, she soon learned that the property was loaded with spirits, largely from a slave cemetery. When they overheard her tell her kids about spiritual realities, they came calling. Lots of them.
Investigative Medium - the Awakening, examines the gift that was thrust upon Laine who was at first surprised, and then upset, and over time and through experience, embracing of this new way of life. Laine’s husband, Chris, twins Annie and Caleb, and even her Jack Russell terrier “Steve” have peripheral ghostly involvement, so it is a family affair, although at first an unsettling one.
Along Laine’s journey, she meets an unlikely friend, the spirit of Jannette, once nanny to the children on the plantation where she lives. Laine finds similarities in her own life and Jannette's, and with Jannette's friendship, Laine begins her journey down a path of self discovery. Jannette has had a similar tussle with racism and sexism from her 19th-century circumstances to Laine’s struggle with prejudices against her spiritual abilities. So, the two stories are parallel. With Laine’s new abilities, she becomes Jannette's voice, bringing her back from the antebellum South to tell the incredible story of her life as a slave, and a tender romance is revealed.  Interwoven with Laine’s personal story, are the first hand accounts of former slaves Jannette and Bill, and others.
Once Laine accepts her gift, it is her mother who, from beyond the grave, helps Laine find a way to surrender, and at long last give up on the life she dreamed of having, in order to have the life she was meant to live.  Folksy and fresh, endearing and affecting, Investigative Medium - the Awakening is funny, thrilling and inspiring. The book examines the gift thrust upon Laine, and her acceptance and eventual surrender to the life she is supposed to live.

Investigative Medium - the Awakening is a fast read, but put on your seat belts, it's a thriller along the way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible read June 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just finished this book and I can honestly say it is amazing. It's a very well-written account of how her life has evolved as an investigative medium and what struck me as interesting was how really normal her life is...she has 2 children, a husband, and a dog...she has a brother and 2 sisters...she's not a particularly good cook. lol She shares a lot of very personal accounts that may cause you to chuckle, gasp, and possibly shed a tear. I enjoyed her style of writing, and her subject matter, immensely. Looking forward to that next book!

Finally, you can now find Peace in where your loved one has moved onto once you finish reading this book! You will discover the reasons you "feel" they are around...and nothing to be afraid of. I felt such compassion from the author in reading this book, I lost my mother and most recently, my father and I am at Peace knowing where and what they are experiencing! I believe this body of ours is strictly a "vehicle" if you will. Laine Crosby shows us all of this. We all have lost relatives very close to us and mourn for those that are struggling with the pain in losing their loved one. I suggest you buy them this book..no I am not related to Laine Crosby, but I do feel for her. Without giving the book away, she too has her own struggles and through writing this book I feel she is learning to realize the true sense of the afterlife, as it is told. There is so much history in this book, and living in VA as well, I know she has done her research. This is just not another book about dying..Laine has proven to show herself as an Investigative Medium..and I know I will continue to read more of her books. Take a step into where she takes you, helping to solve mysteries that go beyond your beliefs...trust me, you will believe! Thank you Laine for showing us what a true Investigative Medium is all about..excellent read...excellent writing through your own vision, with your own words....

5.0 out of 5 stars What a marvelous book July 22, 2013

I just finished Investigate Medium - The Awakening and all I can say is WOW! It was wonderful! The stories about Laine's mother both before she passed and after she passed were so touching. It made me feel like I knew her and while I, thankfully, haven't lost either one of my parents it brought me some comfort that when that time does come I will know that they are still with me and that I will be able to communicate with them. Also the stories as told by Jannette, Bill and William were compelling and offered some wonderful insight into what life was like in the 1860's and they remind you that while times have changed the human spirit and feelings/emotions present the same concerns and challenges no matter the era. A historical, touching, insightful read. A truly wonderful book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating read! November 6, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was intrigued to learn that my college classmate, Laine Crosby, had discovered that she had psychic ability. For the most part, I ordered her book out of curiosity and in an effort to support my friend. Like many other reviewers, once I started reading it, I could not put it down! I was captivated by Laine's storytelling and impressed by her beautiful writing style. Personally, I was most affected by her account of her mother's illness and death, which is something so many of us are dealing with.

Highly recommend! (And not just because Laine is my friend!)

Laine kept me wanting to read and I stayed up late two nights in a row to finish her fabulous book. Yes, I read it in 2 days! Keep these books coming Laine. You have an amazing gift and what a way to share your insight through the positive side of this blessing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! June 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Investigative Medium: The Awakening answers a lot of questions I've always wondered about mediums and clairvoyants-how it develops, how they feel, what they experience once they finally accept their abilities. I found Laine's recounting of these very experiences to be compelling and down-to-earth. She describes her situation with candidness and humor-that coupled with a parallel ghost story made for a unique and fascinating read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing !!! October 28, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I laughed, I cried, and I learned. Laine has many amazing talents, and writing is certainly one of them. To read about her journey on becoming a spiritual medium was wonderful, and to hear history being told by the people (spirits)themselves is amazing. It also gives you an insight to what lies beyond this world, and just how wonderful it will be.
Thank you Laine for sharing your amazing talent with us all, I wish you all the best, and yellow butterfly's.
