Editorial Reviews

They can’t be steered. They take up to a mile to stop. Their drivers often work 60 to 100 hour a week. They transport millions of tons of hazardous material. They are America’s trains, and more and more often, they are running off the tracks. INVESTIGATIVE REPORTS climbs aboard the nation’s railroads to examine the growing problem of Danger on the Rails. Incredible, real-life footage shows some of the worst accidents and their deadly consequences. Survivors and victims recall the terror and pain of their tragic encounters with trains. And in exclusive interviews, legislators, high-ranking government officials and railroad personnel detail the many safety problems the industry faces. Warning: Contains footage that might not be suitable for some viewers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Danger on the rails from a mothers perspective., September 30, 2000

This review is from: Investigative Reports: Danger on the Rails, True Stories of American Train Disasters [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Danger on the rails attracted my son's attention because of the flashing warning lights and sounds of RR crossing gates. It is not a tape for a young child to view trains. The video covers a vast array of RR mishaps. Some are the result of human error, some intentional vandalism, others due to the lack of safety equipment in use. The tape shows some of the worst RR disasters in our country. Interviews with family members of victims and survivors, witnesses and employees from the RR's, engineers, union members and administrators are all presented showing the emotional aftermath. This video grabs the viewer quickly and keeps you glued to the screen. One feels well informed on the dangers of crossing tracks and not heeding the warnings. This video is too intense for the younger children, however I feel all teens should watch it before a driver's license is issued and that any community with trains passing through it should know about some of the "neglected" aging tracks that could potentially be harmful even deadly to the citizens. The video is well done and thought provoking. Definitely worth watching.
