Book Description

May 4, 1998
(From the Introduction) The idea of investing in small, rapidly growing companies has enormous appeal because it can be so rewarding. Almost everyone has heard stories about investors who have made small fortunes buying stock in great companies when they were still very small and not yet well known, and most of their growth as well as stock appreciation was still ahead of them. But this is a difficult and risky style of investing; many small companies falter and never produce the kind of growth that is expected of them. This book is written for investors who would like to be more active in the emerging growth sector of the stock market but are wary of the risks and feel they have to know more about this style of investing to be comfortable with it. It will lead you through every aspect of the investment process, along the way developing quidelines to help you realize the high returns that are possible with emerging growth stocks.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Mr. Broadfoot's book is full of educational and practical information about one of the most exciting arenas of the stock market. Now that it has been updated, it is a good primer for anyone interested in emerging growth opportunities. -- Dian Vujovich, Nationally syndicated mutual fund columnist and author of Straight Talk About Mutual Funds , 01/01/98

From the Publisher

This republished primer on emerging growth investing is written by Jim Broadfoot, portfolio manager of the Ivy US Emerging Growth Fund and the Ivy Global Science & Technology Fund. The book was written with investors in mind. The book starts by putting the emerging growth style into perspectivecomparing it with other investment approaches, examining its risks and its rewards. The author cites examples of companies that have turned out to be classic emerging growth success stories. He has included actual case studies of stocks he has purchased for the Ivy funds under his management and which demonstrate his aptness for putting theory into practice. Also included in the book are discussions on the stock selection process, the importance of valuations, and buying, selling or making trades.

I read this book in two or three days because I literally could not put it down. It was evident the author has a lot of insight into microcaps and successful strategies for investing in them. A good investment book will provide atleast one or two pearls of wisdom, this book provides many such pearls and it is easily worth many times the book's price
