5.0 out of 5 stars If you don't understand your stock investments, read this!
Mr. Updegrave's book, Investing for the Financially Challenged, is a comprehensive, interesting, informative and sometimes funny book a stock market novice will love. I plan to read it several times and order several more copies as Christmas presents for my sons.

1.0 out of 5 stars too flippant, no real advice
The author's flippancy sounds like arrogance after a while. He has no useful advice other than to invest in index funds. I ordered this book on the recommendation of a review on Amazon.com. My recommendation is don't order it yourself. A much better book also available at Amazon.com is the Baby Boomer Financial Wake Up Call, by Kay Shirley.

I found the information in this book straightforward and helpful for novice investors. The book covers the basics of investing (investment types, diversification, indexing, the beauty of compound interest, etc.) and makes a handy guide for investors.

5.0 out of 5 stars highly recommended, July 5, 1999

I've tried to read other financial advice books, but usually found them to be tedious. This one is full of straightforward, practical advice that is easy to incorporate into real life. Mr. Updegrave also writes for Money Magazine, so he knows how to explain financial matters clearly. As an added bonus, his sly wit will make you smile.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good...so far....but stolen!, January 2, 2002

Briefly, I read two chapters...took the book into a MacDonalds...and read while waiting to order my take-out! Put the book down while getting catup and walk-out without the book! Drove 35 miles and was so determined to get the book bac that I drove the 35 miles or so back! When I arrived at MacDonalds...the book was gone...no one saw it! So, someone is enjoying the books or so I hope so...and my notes ought to help them, too. And what will I do? I will purchase the book again!

Why? Because what I read sounded like good advice.
