Book Description

January 19, 2005
How to Invest in a Secular Bear Market is a sequel to Alexander's 2000 book Stock Cycles, which forecast the start of a secular bear market, a lengthy period of poor investment performance. Alexander describes the structure of a secular bear market and explains why they happen. He then shows what an investor can expect from this secular bear market over the next 5-10 years and provides some investing strategies.

"This is a brilliant and scholarly study that looks to create longer term capital gains in retirement accounts based on cycle investing. What I found particularly fascinating was the very detailed and well-researched studies on the socio-economic/cultural cycles of change throughout history. Wear your 'thinking cap' as the author shows you how to capitalize on these cycles in your IRA and 401(k) accounts."
Mohan 21st Century Futures

"This is a 'must read' for anyone interested in the business cycles and their impact on investment dynamics and making money in the stock market. The book brings together multiple cycle theories in a comprehensive reading style."
—Bruce Gulliver, Editor, Torpedo Watch

5.0 out of 5 stars Complicated book but worth the read, July 11, 2008
This review is from: Investing in a Secular Bear Market (Paperback)
I read the author's "Stock cycles" book, he was right on spot on the 2001-2003 downturn. Now it turns out he is again right on this bear market again, just look at his predictive (of course he does not claim that stock indexes are gonna exactly follow that pattern) chart. It shows the market decline starting sometime in 2007 and ending around in 2009 at half the price unfortunately. You cannot predict any market move but the author has some good knowledge about cycles, and has a defined strategy, given the price levels in the markets. It is worth a read, I think, but don't expect to find the holy trail. If the author had found it, he wouldn't have written a book about it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Reads like a PhD thesis, April 30, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Investing in a Secular Bear Market (Paperback)
A complicated book....reads more like a PhD thesis. He does make some specific predictions, however.
I think someone who is a student of cycles and already has substantial knowledge may have an interest in this book.
It is small paperback book of 126 pages, and again seems very academic. Probably too academic. My two stars is based that I didn't feel this book was useful for even sophisticated investors except for those with a strong backround in cycles. I did not read his previous book which perhaps provide an important backround for this book. I was attracted to buy the book because of the title.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, October 22, 2005
This review is from: Investing in a Secular Bear Market (Paperback)
Purchased the book in anticipation that it would match the preceding two... Unfortunately I was disappointed. Particularly with the published date (2005) being 2+ years on from most data referred to within (2002)...
