Your Aunt Gladys could guest star on this primer, which purports to meet the needs of women. They got half the title right--it's made by women, but the stilted information imparted is financial advice either gender could benefit from and the well-read probably already know. The financial non-news bulletins are divided into four parts--risk vs. reward, investment returns, the need for liquidity, and the tax implications of various investments. The production values are so low it feels a bit like you're screening a home video. Hosts Linda Bergren and Cindy Witt have solid financial backgrounds but sound as if they're reading an annual report when they're on camera. Still, some startling statistics are relayed regarding the need for women to plan their financial futures. Consider this: one-third of the baby girls born today will live to be 100, with plenty of golden years to plan for. It could be the perfect offbeat baby-shower gift or an introduction for financial novices.
