Book Description

Most financial advisors understand the basics of investment advising and retirement planning. But what many independent investment advisors fail to understand is just how all that expertise can go to waste unless the practical aspects of advising are supported by effective marketing. It’s pretty simple: You need clients to grow your business and be successful!
In Investment Advisor Marketing: A Pathway to Growing Your Firm and Building Your Brand, long-time business partners Scott Hanson and Pat McClain provide an A-Z guidebook of their over two-decades of marketing expertise. Dispensed in a concise, direct, accessible voice, they provide page after page of practical marketing knowledge gained from their over 20 years of experience in founding, building and promoting four successful companies. From the lessons learned during their early lean years of shoestring budgets, to contracting with literally dozens of outside marketing firms, and leading right on up to 2013 and hundred thousand dollar marketing spends, Hanson and McClain tell you what they’ve done, how they’ve done it, and what you should do to successfully market yourself and your firm. Topics include: Marketing for beginners, radio for any budget, common mistakes to avoid, how to identify and crack a true niche market, effective and accessible analytics—how to determine if your marketing efforts are working—brand building, the value of inexpensive community involvement, and much more! Investment Advisor Marketing: A Pathway to Growing Your Firm and Building Your Brand is a no-holds barred educational revelation for the foundation of any investment advisory practice: marketing.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Hanson & McClain have given away the store in this marketing roadmap to success ... and you certainly can't argue with their marketing success!"
ED SLOTT: Founder of Elite IRA Advisor Group

"One of the traits of successful advisory firms is a well thought out marketing strategy. Unfortunately, most advisors have no marketing plan at all. Scott Hanson and Pat McClain are both great marketers and have achieved success in large part due to their marketing expertise. Investment Advisor Marketing unveils many of the marketing tactics they have employed to great effect at Hanson McClain. A great read for any advisor wishing to grow his or her practice!"
CHIP ROAME: Managing Partner Tiburon Strategic

Advisors"Scott Hanson and Pat McClain get what is most elusive to novice marketers: that it's not about "marketing" per se, and yet, too, it is only about marketing. In the way that it tackles this paradox, Investment Advisor Marketing will be a mindset changer for advisors looking to take their cues from a serial success in their own marketing-oblivious industry."
BROOKE SOUTHALL: Founder and Editor of RIAbiz.com

"If you don't control your message to clients and prospects, you're allowing someone else to control you. Hanson and McClain have successfully walked the marketing walk, and advisors who want to grow their businesses should take control of their message by reading their highly practical and personal book on advisor marketing. Your bottom line will thank you!"
JAMIE GREEN: Editorial Director, Investment Advisor Group

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! November 14, 2013
By Kerry
Format:Kindle Edition
“I’ve heard Hanson and McClain speak about marketing before and came away impressed. I’ve now read the eBook version of Investment Advisor Marketing and want to say the following: while marketing is often hype (“experts” who have never actually marketed anything except maybe themselves), this book is unique in a few ways. First, the voice (the writing) is first-person plural, so it’s nothing like a dry textbook. While the sheer breadth of information is impressive, it’s broken down nicely into potent bullets and small sections. I never felt overloaded or overwhelmed. Turn to just about any page and you’ll have a marketing nugget ready to help you grow. Nearly anyone with a business that relies on attracting and keeping clients can use most (if not all) of these lessons to build and strengthen their firm. While obviously I haven’t read every book on marketing, I’ve read several. This is, by far, the best one to date. I’m extremely happy with this purchase.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! October 22, 2013

This book wouldn't only be good for investment advisors, it's ideal for any business that relies on brand building and marketing to reach its audience and attract clients. Tons of budget marketing information, but then there's just as much for more established companies with established name recognition. I was very impressed and am actually sitting down to read the entire book again. I learned a lot, and just about any page I turned to had a useful lesson that is explained clearly and in a concise manner. Typically, books such as this can be overwhelming (or dull). Not so with Investment Advisor Marketing. Very useful. Very well written. Very interesting! Five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars ~ Excellent Marketing Insights ~ October 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Excellent insights into an aspect of business that many entrepreneurs completely miss the boat. Without clients, even the sharpest advisor's talent goes to waste. Study and apply these principles to any business!

This is a very well written book, a great read and reference to keep close by.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive! November 21, 2013

I read marketing books for a living … this one ranks right up there in terms of content. To some degree, it's all a numbers game. Incorporate some (or all) of the campaigns that Hanson McClain have developed, and you will absolutely increase your potential success … and build your business. It's incredibly easy to read, by the way, so there's no excuse. Buy it and read it!
