The main points of the text are dispersed throughout a litany of fluff. The form of presentation of the material is not straight forward; I feel like every chapter requires me to dig through words in order to find the pertinent and applicable facts. I've read through chapter 16 and honestly believe the same amount of information could have been presented in 8 chapters. This is really frustrating when time is so priceless in grad school.

As a comparison, "Investments" by Sharpe (1998) was a perfectly written book on the topic. I use it now to fill in the gaps created by this miserable read.

I had no choice as this book was required for a class, but I would never recommend it as a voluntary purchase.

Had to buy this book for FIN405 at Clemson, the book has a lot of good topics but I've found that my professor goes much farther in depth than the book offers. I have also found that this book is a little harder to read than other books, the text is smaller and closer together and generally not broken up.

It was a requirement for my class so I didn't have a choice in purchasing it. It's an in-valuable resource but it's not "fun" to read.

This textbook, although filled with a lot of useful information, has questions and problems that are not explained in the body of the text. I have had to reference other textbooks and internet articles to complete problems from this book, as there are no examples or standards on how to complete certain problems. I wish there were more examples available. That said, it was a required textbook for a class and I had no choice but to purchase it. If I were a teacher, however, I would not select this text for my students.

I purchased the rental version of this required textbook for a college class. The authors seem to ramble on and on just to fill up the 30-40 pages per chapter they were obliged to write. The chapter on Technical trading (15) seems to list lots of reason why an investor should not use this technique, but few reasons why investors do use this technique. The layout of the book is counterproductive - the font must be a mere 8 points - it's tiny, surrounded by large margins of white space. The font is also not black, but some sort of gray, that washes out further upon printing. The formulas are in even tinier print, making it very difficult to distinguish variables called t from variables called i. It is also hard to distinguish between variable I and the number 1. If you try to blow up the text on your computer monitor, you will find that the formula is a poor-quality graphic - the text will still be illegible, just bigger. You will have to do a Google search to find out whether that variable is a t or an i. Turning pages in this e-book is cumbersome - you can't see the bottom of one page and the beginning of the next page on one screen. Instead, the book shows only one page at a time, and will automatically jump to the top of the page, even if you want to see the bottom of the previous page. Exhibits and formulas have been laid out to sprawl across two pages, making this inability to see 2 pages on one screen really irritating. Inconsiderate widow/orphan control was used in laying out the text, so you will get a two lines of text on one page, the rest of the section on another page. You also can't print out more than 10 pages of the e-text.Read more ›

This is an excellent resource for anyone investing using equities. It covers essential valuation issues and should be on any investor or analyst's book shelf. The price is extremely high, but the information is essential.
