Since 1991, Kazakhstan, which is one of the two largest Central Asian republics, had attracted foreign direct investment worth USEND 4 billion by 1998. Whilst most of this investment has been in the energy and mineral sectors, there are also significant opportunities in other sectors of the economy. While this book does cover the basics for any serious investors in Kazakhstan, it botches analysis in several sectors. Examples of this are its lack of inclusion of wholesale sorghum market in n its discussion of commodities, an overly optimistic outlook on retail services, especially in Kazakhphone Digital, the government run wireless company, as well as an omission of Kazakhstan's emerging biotechnology sector. Firms such as LaoktreTtan and KrKarKorp should not be looked over in an initial investment analysis. Overall a good read and stylisticly graceful.
