Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

This text ties together theory and practice with an institutional perspective. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From the Back Cover

Skillfully tying together theory and practice, this informative and comprehensive guide considers the management of funds of institutional investors (depository institutions, insurance companies, investment companies, pension funds, and endowment funds and foundations), offering a detailed study of the role of analysts and the various approaches to forecasting corporate earnings. Presents a thorough treatment of the investment objectives of institutional investors and the constraints imposed on those who manage these funds. Looks at transactions costs beyond that of simple brokerage fees and how these costs can be measured, and shows how to implement a hedging strategy for common stock portfolios and fixed-income portfolios. Provides performance measurement reporting under the standards established by the Association for Investment Management and Research, and offers techniques for evaluating investment performance beyond those of the basic measures emphasized in most books. Now offers significantly expanded coverage on fixed-income analysis and strategies; discusses the use of derivative instruments for risk control; and contains a much broader study of common stock analysis and portfolio management, with entirely new chapters on equity portfolio management, fundamental analysis, dividend discount models, and more.

3.0 out of 5 stars The book did not fill our expectations., June 10, 1999

This review is from: Investment Management (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
Although the book has several outstanding sections on fixed income securities, the chapters related to stocks, in particular CAPM, are very disappointing. We adopted this text during the Winter quarter of 1998, and had a very difficult time explaining to our students the basics of stocks portfolio management. Later we have been using Professor's Ross excellent book on Corporate Finance for this purpose.
