Book Description

February 12, 2003
The Investment Train: Choosing the Right Track to Retirement strips away trendy investment advice to offer back-to-basics financial information. Its goal is to help readers make sure they have enough "gold" for your golden years. All it takes is solid planning and the courage to stick with your strategy even when "chic" investment temptations stare you in the face.

The stock market’s incredible rise during the 1990s made it easy for almost anyone to make money. That investment euphoria led both professionals and amateurs to take a great deal of risk in their portfolios, often following one fashionable investment after another. When the bubble burst those people lost an incredible percentage of their portfolios.

However, those who created their plan and stuck with it limited their losses significantly.

The book was written with two audiences in mind: first, the do-it-yourself investor seeking insight on creating a plan, and second, someone who wants to learn how to maximize their relationship with their financial advisor."

The Investment Train takes a step-by-step approach to help people evaluate their current financial situation, calculate how much money they will need in retirement, determine how much risk they want to take and then provide the appropriate investment plans.

The book also provides insight on minimizing tax implications, proper insurances and strategies for withdrawing money from a retirement account.

About the Author

Joseph V. Curatolo, president and owner of Georgetown Capital Group, is a visionary. Shortly after graduating from the University of Buffalo in 1976 with a degree in management, he entered the financial industry knowing it’s where he would make his mark.

But even he could not see that more than 25 years later he would become an author and financial commentator for regional television and radio stations as well as a sought-after guest for national radio networks. It is all based on his award-winning career as a financial planner, which included being inducted into a Hall of Fame for investment advisors.

Now he has taken all the financial expertise gained throughout his career and penned The Investment Train: Choosing the Right Track to Retirement.

After leaving college Mr. Curatolo worked for two different companies. But in early 1987 he formed Georgetown Capital Group to fulfill his burning desire to run a firm where each client received individual investment attention to help their portfolios grow. He believed if the money of his top 150 clients kept growing, they would refer him to others and his business would expand.

Six months after opening the firm, Mr. Curatolo faced an immediate crisis: the October 1987 stock market crash. However, because of portfolio positioning and individual attention, not one single client left the firm, a claim few companies can make.

Mr. Curatolo’s insights are highly regarded in the national investment community. He regularly meets with managers of the largest mutual funds in the nation. He was a three-year member of the 12-person Royal Alliance Associates, Inc. Advisor Panel and was a member of Putnam Funds national advisory council for five years. He is currently one of the six-member, national panel for Liberty Investments.

In just the past few years he has received two of the highest honors in his profession. In 2002, he was inducted into the first class of Royal Alliance Associates’ Hall of Fame for his outstanding work during his career. He also earned the 1999 DALBAR Financial Professional Seal, a national award that recognizes financial professionals, who have exceeded national benchmarks in areas of trust satisfaction, quality of advice, financial results and a clear regulatory record.

The media has also recognized his expertise. Mr. Curatolo makes regular appearances on WGRZ-TV in Buffalo dispensing financial advice. He has also appeared regularly on Business TalkRadio Network. WKBW-TV, WIVB-TV, The Buffalo News and Business First of Buffalo also use Mr. Curatolo as a financial expert.

Mr. Curatolo’s specialty is individual and pension assets, advising on investments with growth potential that offer income and provide an inflation hedge. He holds General Securities Licenses Series #7 and #24 as well as a New York State Insurance License. He is a member of the International Association of Financial Planners and in 1991 was listed in "Who’s Who of Young Rising Americans in Business."

I myself am a young investor and found this book to be very easy to understand and follow. After reading this book I now feel that I have enough information to start down my own investment track. I would recommend this book to any new investor looking for some direction with their investments. Joe really hit the head on the tack with this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Information!, June 24, 2003

This review is from: The Investment Train: Choosing the Right Track to Retirement (Paperback)
The Investment Train: Choosing the Right Track to Retirement really was helpful to me and my husband. We are in our 50s and were looking for something more than just your basic, run of the mill advice. This book offered the back-to-basics information we needed, but took things a step further to allow us to learn more and add to our basic knowledge.

If you enjoy doing your own investing, there is enough information here to help you with that -- and, if you have a financial adviser and just want to learn more about what he/she does, this book also is extremely helpful. The book also provides insight on minimizing tax implications, proper insurances and strategies for withdrawing money from a retirement account.

I plan on trying to get in touch with the author to discuss our retirement plans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all!, June 23, 2003

This book breaks down the complexity of financial planning. Mr. Curatolo is wonderful at explaining and teaching the basics of creating a plan. This book features many visuals including charts, graphs and examples that help you see the end result. Myself being a beginner, this book really helped to show me where my money should be in order to achieve the best results according to my goals, risk and my stage in life. Mr. Curatolo is very detailed when it comes to the courses we should stay on and when the best time is to stop and re-evaluate. A must read for anyone wanting to know more about how their money will work best for them!
