Joseph V. Curatolo, president and owner of Georgetown Capital Group, is a visionary. Shortly after graduating from the University of Buffalo in 1976 with a degree in management, he entered the financial industry knowing its where he would make his mark.
But even he could not see that more than 25 years later he would become an author and financial commentator for regional television and radio stations as well as a sought-after guest for national radio networks. It is all based on his award-winning career as a financial planner, which included being inducted into a Hall of Fame for investment advisors.
Now he has taken all the financial expertise gained throughout his career and penned The Investment Train: Choosing the Right Track to Retirement.
After leaving college Mr. Curatolo worked for two different companies. But in early 1987 he formed Georgetown Capital Group to fulfill his burning desire to run a firm where each client received individual investment attention to help their portfolios grow. He believed if the money of his top 150 clients kept growing, they would refer him to others and his business would expand.
Six months after opening the firm, Mr. Curatolo faced an immediate crisis: the October 1987 stock market crash. However, because of portfolio positioning and individual attention, not one single client left the firm, a claim few companies can make.
Mr. Curatolos insights are highly regarded in the national investment community. He regularly meets with managers of the largest mutual funds in the nation. He was a three-year member of the 12-person Royal Alliance Associates, Inc. Advisor Panel and was a member of Putnam Funds national advisory council for five years. He is currently one of the six-member, national panel for Liberty Investments.
In just the past few years he has received two of the highest honors in his profession. In 2002, he was inducted into the first class of Royal Alliance Associates Hall of Fame for his outstanding work during his career. He also earned the 1999 DALBAR Financial Professional Seal, a national award that recognizes financial professionals, who have exceeded national benchmarks in areas of trust satisfaction, quality of advice, financial results and a clear regulatory record.
The media has also recognized his expertise. Mr. Curatolo makes regular appearances on WGRZ-TV in Buffalo dispensing financial advice. He has also appeared regularly on Business TalkRadio Network. WKBW-TV, WIVB-TV, The Buffalo News and Business First of Buffalo also use Mr. Curatolo as a financial expert.
Mr. Curatolos specialty is individual and pension assets, advising on investments with growth potential that offer income and provide an inflation hedge. He holds General Securities Licenses Series #7 and #24 as well as a New York State Insurance License. He is a member of the International Association of Financial Planners and in 1991 was listed in "Whos Who of Young Rising Americans in Business."
