This book is mostly an introduction to technical analysis, but it has strengths that go beyond a basic-level text. 2.0 out of 5 stars Another Me Too Book on TA
This book is another "Me Too" book on technical analysis. This book is very short and concise. There is a section with problems and solutions. However, in the REAL world, most patterns are not as clear-cut as those in the book. Why doesn't the author use REAL examples? Unlike those previous reviewers with the fancy-schmancy titles, I'm just your everyday average trader...

This book is mostly an introduction to technical analysis, but it has strengths that go beyond a basic-level text. The logic of technical analysis is explained in very clear language, and there are many, many practical examples that every reader will relate to. The simplicity of the charts in the exhibits is also a positive. Some books recently have added so much minutia to simple stock charts that the basic message has been confused or lost. Curt Renz does not make this mistake. He sticks with the essential messages of charts, and he give readers several clues to deriving those messages.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Excellent Primer, December 17, 2003
By
This review is from: The Investor's Guide to Technical Analysis (Paperback)
I am new to technical analysis. I really appreciate the way Mr. Renz gently walked me through the process in his marvelous primer. Now it all makes perfect sense to me. His beautiful diagrams quickly burned the key patterns into my mind. It's really great the way he pointed out common investor mistakes and misconceptions. Mr. Renz's explanation of why technical analysis works was a real eye opener. I was one of those he described as running with the dumb money. Now I know how the smart crowd operates!

5.0 out of 5 stars interpret patterns with less rigidity and with more confidence, March 5, 2006
This review is from: The Investor's Guide to Technical Analysis (Paperback)
The Investor's Guide to Technical Analysis.
Is one of the best trading tools that I have in my collection. I refer back to it constantly.Kurt's book is the only one that I have come across to date that actually shows an ideal or dream pattern and what it may actually appear like in real life. This brilliant insight has allowed me to interpret patterns with less rigidity and with more confidence. Instead of scaring myself into selling I can now watch with more confidence as my stocks make normal gyrations between their trend lines. The section on converging trend lines has opened up an entirely new vista of possible winners for me. Kurt's ability to cut through complex patterns, like an Elliot wave, are fascinating, and have me timing my trades with increasing accuracy. Buy one for a friend, as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its All About the Market!, September 21, 2005
This review is from: The Investor's Guide to Technical Analysis (Paperback)
This book has been a joy to read. I have a finance degree from a top-tier University and only wish they had taught me this stuff in school. I have gotten more out of this book than any textbook I had there. Understanding human behavior/psychology and how it plays out in the market allowed me to raise my thinking and understanding of the marketplace to a whole new level. Also, it led me to a conclusion that has permanently shifted my paradigm of the securities world:

In the end, it's all about the market. The question we should all ask ourselves is, "Does the market care?" A stock can have great fundamentals, but without market sponsorship, the equity goes nowhere and vice versa; a stock can have terrible fundamentals, but if the marketplace likes the stock, it can perform quite well.

Read this book and you will be able to determine for yourself which investments have the sponsorship of the market and which do not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative Reading for the Investor, December 8, 2003
By
James Collins (Walnut Creek, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Investor's Guide to Technical Analysis (Paperback)
The ability to balance fundamental and technical analysis is critical to the success of any investor's portfolio. With the increase of program trading and volatility in the markets that have occurred in the past few years, I sincerely believe that technical analysis is becoming a larger factor in the investment decision process today. Having read numerous books on technical analysis, I would say that Curt's ability to present one of the toughest subjects into informative and substantive chapters is a must read for anyone that has funds invested in the markets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn to talk the talk.. and chart your own gains, November 21, 2003
By
Robert A. Brusca (ny, ny United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Investor's Guide to Technical Analysis (Paperback)
Technical analysis is one of the few tried and true investment strategies an individual can learn to use and effectively apply at home with nothing more complex than paper and a pencil. Really. Curt Renz's book opens this world of chart formations and techniques to the average investor and to the novice investor. His book is accessible. It has a teaching approach. The examples and pointers are clear. Best of all, the book introduces something that works! Learn that 'head and shoulders' is not just a shampoo and that 'double bottoms' are not references to people with weight problems. Learn the lingo. Walk the walk, talk the talk - reap the gains. Renz's book is a winner. Use it to learn technical analysis, to manage your affairs, or to double-check your broker. It's your money... and some of it is well spent, I should say, invested, on this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Method for Reading the Market's Mind, December 6, 2005
This review is from: The Investor's Guide to Technical Analysis (Paperback)
I had always been told that technical analysis was equivalent to astrology or voodoo. Great thanks to Curt Renz for nicely explaining in laymen's terms what it really is and why it works. Apparently my previous advisors could not grasp the concepts or were married to fundamental analysis. I shall not consult them anymore.

This book was easy to read, clearly written and well structured. The beautifully designed charts were immensely helpful to me. I passed the test in the back of the book on my first try. Since then I have been applying Mr. Renz's techniques with great success in the marketplace. I would highly recommend the book to anyone who is unfamiliar with technical analysis and desires to improve investment results.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, November 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Investor's Guide to Technical Analysis (Paperback)
In my 35 years in the investment business, I think I have read and seen it all. For those without the knowledge that experience brings, the "Investor's Guide to Technical Analysis" is an excellent primer on the market and technical analysis. This book captures the essence of successful long-term investing: patience, diligence, and objectivity. Renz' honest and sobering assessment of typical investor behavior ("hope over reality") should be required reading for budding investors.

Curt has put together an excellent technical handbook for investors. It is an easy read and helps one to establish skills for successful investing. The section on charting is particularly helpful in defining some of the more potent formations for investing in the underlying trend.

Sound technical analysis is a fundamental for successful investment. Technical analysis is also a very complicated task. Curt has done a wonderful job in turning the complicated concepts to easy-to-read language. It is a must read for investors who want to win the game in today's stock market.
