Gunmetal Charcoal Is More Like It
on March 14, 2012
Even though this Invicta is called "Elegant Ocean All Black," I could tell by the photos it was more of a gunmetal gray/charcoal, which is what I really wanted. I opened the box and sure enough the watch is not black per se but more of a stunning dark charcoal.
The case is not thick but thin so even though this wears nice and large on the wrist at 49mm across the bezel, it is also very light.
I've not had the watch long, but I do have a concern, which I will update if I need to and that concern is the clasp. It feels a bit on the cheap side, very thin and light, reminding me of an aluminum beer can. I compared it to my Seiko Black Monster clasp and they are similar but I'd say the Seiko was a tad more robust.
I'll keep a close eye on this clasp and see how long it lasts me. This is not an Invicta Reserve, hand and Swiss made and built to all reserve specifications, so I should not be surprised that the clasp may be a weak point. We shall see. But for now I am content giving the Elegant Ocean 5 stars. It is a real looker.
Today I took the 1272 to my watch tech to get the bracelet fit to my wrist and I told him about my reservations regarding the bracelet and the clasp. He agreed, telling me it felt like a low-grade metal. I own 35 Invicta watches and this one uses the lowest quality metal for the bracelet I've ever owned. So I must take off at least one star.
I'll give future updates if the clasp or bracelet breaks in any way.
