A Jumbo-sized Casual Watch, September 15, 2011
This review is from: Invicta Men's 1426 II Collection Chronograph White Dial Black Leather Watch (Watch)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have been begging my husband to buy one of the newer style big watches. He is a big guy and I thought they would look good on his wrist. Well, when this watch came up for review I snatched it up and gave it to him. He wasn't sure he liked the size of the piece at first but came to enjoy wearing it. Here are his thoughts on the watch: 1. Functions well, and has keeps accurate time. 2. Comfortable to wear. 3. Watch case is big, so must like to wear large faced watch. 4. Packaging very nice, yellow leather. 5. Very nice face, however it needs better contrast between luminous dials and white face background, Sometimes it is hard to read the time without looking closely. 6. Stop watch is a nice feature and handy like for sports. 7. 24 hour hand is small, somewhat helpful 8. Black leather strap has white stitching that matches the white face of the watch. White stitching is very noticeable. 9. Crown does not lock. 10. The manual says most watches have a screw down crown. This one doesn't, or at least mine doesn't, so not sure if it is broken or truly doesn't screw down. 11. Date is at an angle (i.e. not at the 3 o'clock position) so if your not used to it, it takes some getting used to. 12. MSRP of $595 seems ridiculous when it is selling for $77.33. For $77.33 it is a good bargain for Japanese Quartz movement, flame fusion crystal, stainless steel case, and thick leather strap.. Recommended for larger frames for casual use. 3.5 Stars

Easy to read, classy looking watch, December 16, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
My husband and I don't dress-up often. We're geeky ex-hippies who are far more comfortable in polo shirts and Columbia slacks than we are in sleek clothes. My husband's regular watch is a solar-powered Casio that automatically adjusts time zones; it makes us say "functional" but might make you say "nerd." Every so often, though, it's nice (or socially required) to wear Grownup Clothes. As a result, I was happy to grab this watch out of my Amazon Vine choices. And he said, "Hey, that looks spiffy." On the plus side, the watch is lightweight and (I am told) comfortable. It looks good. And -- definitely a positive asset -- the clock face is large and readable, MUCH more readable than most digital watches. On the downside... actually there really IS no downside. This is a very nice watch. It hasn't made him consider giving up the Casio, because we are still geeks at heart, but it is absolutely NICE. The Invecta won't make anybody say Wow, but it does look comfortably professional.

Nice features, sturdy timepiece., January 26, 2012

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Invicta Men's 1426 II Collection Chronograph is not your vintage, classic thin-case, streamlined chronograph watch. It's a beast and a half. Make that an attractive beast and a half combining lovely finishes (brushed metal always looks cleaner as the issue of fingerprints on the metal is nearly nil. The area around the dial is brushed and the rest is polished/shiny) and features (I love the stop watch feature). And the beast is water resistant to 100 meters. Though honestly, this is more of a fashion watch than something I would wear on a boat or near the water, while involved in any recreation that might get me splashed or soaked...The size would probably bother me during anything more active than a quiet evening out. It is extremely heavy and is not for the delicately wristed or folks like me who have arthritis in their arms and hands. The size is quite large... It is a men's watch, but it seems larger than other men's watches I have worn in the past (I prefer larger watches even though I am female). It is easy to set and the functions are easily manageable and accessible. I do need my reading glasses and bright lighting to see the date feature, but that isn't a deal killer for me. Actually, it was a nice surprise as without bright light and my stronger reading glasses I thought it was just a graphic or another dial marker... Put the glasses on, turn on the reading lamp and Bonus! It keeps track of the date. For the list price of nearly $600, I wouldn't spring for this (if I had the money to burn) model as to me the font chosen for the dial markers is not the appropriate match with the rest of the styling choices in this design but from what I have seen, it is the font used on many Invicta dials and may be part of their "look". I think this particular font cheapens the overall "feel"/look of the watch and I would probably choose a numberless model over a numbered one next time... The band is extremely stiff, possibly from newness but also probably from necessity as it must retain the heavy timepiece... Closer examination (aka "fun with the nifty little magnifier my kid got in this stocking last month") reveals that the band is indeed reinforced in the middle. I was suspicious of the band at first, as it definitely has a "fresh plastic"/"new car" scent, but that could be from the packaging or the material used to reinforce the thick band. For a little over $55 (Amazon's price as I am writing this review), it is a fine deal and at that price it doesn't need to be the heirloom piece you pass along to your grandkids but rather a more utilitarian time keeper that doesn't require any coddling. Invicta includes a one year warranty and repairs during that time are (according to Invicta) very detailed... They repair and then test the watch for two weeks to make sure it is functioning accurately. The packaging is a stylized bright yellow hinged presentation box and includes a plastic hang tag (with the MSRP info on the back), a single page that outlines how to use various features, and a more detailed booklet containing operating instructions, as well as information on maintenance and how to return your watch should warranty service be required. For slightly over $55, the packaging is pretty upscale and shmancy enough to make your new watch purchase feel more like an experience (like when you turn on a new computer for the first time...drive you car off a lot... maybe not that "big", but definitely more of a highlight than slapping the watch from the cart vendor on the corner on your wrist for the first time. At the MSRP of $595 I would prefer a less "fun" box and something more conservative... Coordinating leather (or vinyl/pleather which is usually used in jewelry/watch packaging) or even embossed/textured paper would be a better presentation, especially if giving this as a gift. At $55, I'm fine with the "sporty" case and it is a step above the plastic showcase boxes of many comparably priced time pieces available at big box stores... Note that if you aren't a fan of the white dial/face, the same design and features are available with the colors inverted (numbers are white, dial is black, chrono-stop watch dials are white) here: Invicta Men's 1427 II Collection Chronograph Black Dial Leather WatchI will update this review if I have anything to add in the future...
