4.0 out of 5 stars What is that smell????
This watch is what i"ve been looking for something different. The style and color caught my eye. The only draw back is that smell coming from the watch. I read the comments and it is true that smell is soooo bad that you really can not enjoy wearing the watch. Although I received alot of compliments on the it the smell is keeping me from wearing it. Can someone tell me...

Okay, something is terribly wrong. I read the other review about a "lemon pledge" smell. My package contents, watch box, and watch all have a terrible smell. Think "bubble gum", then turn up the volume to eleven.

This is not normal. Clearly something has happened to this stock (mold, maybe?), and someone has tried to fix it by bathing it in some industrial cleaner or AirWick or something like that. I have bought Invicta watches in the past -- in fact I have two others of this exact same watch box. They did not smell at all. It's not the plastic strap -- can't be unless it's made of Febreze!

I guess that's the reason for the sale price!

We typically get unscented dryer sheets, cat litter, etc, and this is exactly the kind of smell we are trying to avoid when we do, but much, much worse.

I am taking this out to the garage while I try to decide what to do with it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price...but a fatal flaw, February 17, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Invicta Men's 1906 Specialty Collection Swiss Quartz Watch (Watch)
The watch looks good (on a big wrist), is very readable and has no date (a plus for me). Unfortunately, the lemon pledge smell is there and in a really strong way. Think of very bad cologne. It is due to the rubber --- a cheap type? The watch may be hot in the summer given its size and the thick rubber.

The price is very good for what you get and it does not look cheap --- so two stars (down form three) --- the smell seems permanent. Really quite strange.

I've worn a lot of watches and never experienced this strange phenomenon. Indeed, my significant other got a headache form the smell! I guess one just has to laugh!

P.S. The 24mm strap, probably only available from Invicta due to its size and shape, costs AS MUCH as this watch to replace (It will break sooner or later). And will smell of lemon pledge (I called --- it's "normal" for this watch; they said wash with soap --- it did not help). So, if you buy and the smell becomes less with time, don't wear it too tightly to get more use out of the strap before needing a new one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, Stylish Watch for the Value, February 16, 2012
This review is from: Invicta Men's 1906 Specialty Collection Swiss Quartz Watch (Watch)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Previously I reviewed a few other Invicta watches that left me wanting more. In one, the strap was poorly made; in the other, the strap was made of a nice rubber material that, sadly, was designed with too harsh an edge touching your wrist. Invicta has finally gotten it right, however, with the 1906.

The 1906, first, is a really striking watch. The metal portions of the watch are a really nice, aged bronze color, that accentuates the crimson brown of the watch face very well. Like the other Invictas, the watch face construction is not a problem. It is sturdy and, simply put, feels expensive.

The failing point of the other watches, the band, is not an issue with the 1906. While made of the same rubber-textured synthetic as other Invictas, the edges here are beveled so that they dont irritate the wrist while you're wearing it. All the clasps feel of nice quality, as well.

Overall, this is a really nice watch entry in the Invicta line. It is the clear winner of all the ones I've tried thusfar, and would a be a really nice addition to an gentleman's accessory collection.

The watch is absolutely gorgeous and it's exactly as pictured. I especially love the rubberized band; it's a nice change from the basic metal & leather. I wasn't sure just how large the face dial was as my son prefers the large size that covers the entire wrist, which this does. Whether you're a fan of Invicta or not, you won't be disappointed!

3.0 out of 5 stars Classy, Bold Interesting Style, But Band Smells, January 6, 2012

Length:: 8:43 Mins

The watch is large, a great color that looks great, and the face has a bold but very visually interesting style that I think looks better in person than pictured. The copper color trim is really great and unique compared to my other watches. The whole copper trim on the surface can be rotates and is marked with an arrow (starting point) in 10 minute increments on the 5s so that you can time something to the minute. The face on the inside of the trim is lined with tape-measure-like lines for minutes and 25 second marks for the 3 minutes between each 5. The hands are very easy to read against the dark copper-red backdrop along with the bold numbers. The hands are lined in copper too which is more elegant. The second hand (also copper) is also easy to read. Even the off-center adjustment knob is visually interesting. I really love this watch, if it weren't for the band which in (1) looks and (2) smell knocks it by at least 2 stars from what it could be.

BAND
The band is a mixed blessing (5 negatives, 2 positive). First of all, the good thing, compared to rubber bands of off the shelf watches at discount stores, this band *appears* very superior. It is very thick and looks better than most rubber bands (positive #1). Its color is quite good (positive #2). At a quick glance, you probably wouldn't notice at first. But it still is visibly a rubber band that upon inspection makes it a more casual watch (negative #1). I would want to wear this in a business casual environment or out on a weekend, and it would definitely be okay for that. But the rubber band is still noticeable and in an important meeting I might prefer to wear a watch with a nicer band. Second, it appear you might be able to scratch the band (negative #2). It has more solid flat surface that would show more if scuffed or scratched. It seems easy enough to mark up the edge of the band, but seems to come right out by rubbing it with your finger. Third, it is quite thick (negative #3), which can be both a pro and a con. But I definitely feel it when typing on my keyboard with the extra thickness that holds my wrist up. But honestly I have already gotten used to it while typing this. Fourth, and maybe most important, it really isn't as comfortable compared to a leather band that has a softer back (negative #4). The thick band doesn't follow as closely around my wrist, fits a little more loosely, and actually feels bulky as a result. Fifth, the smell... (negative #5) which demands more explanation.

THE SMELL
The band smells like lemon Pledge. The whole box is infused with it and can be pungent if you put your nose right up to it. The whole watch, tag, and inside the box smells of it, but it really seems to come from the band. At first, I had guessed that someone had reconditioned mine by cleaning with lemon pledge and figured it was an isolated incident and decided not to mention it in the video review. I have 3 other watches from Invicta, none of which had this. I had suspected it would easily clean off. I was wrong. I cleaned the whole watch in the sink twice with concentrated dish soap (without submerging the face). The smell did not come off. Plastics pick up smells (as do your food containers) so it could have still picked it up from cleaning or the band actually smells of this. At least it isn't a rubber tire smell. My box smells the strongest, so I'm pitching that and airing it out separately after. So now I am just going to air the watch out on a shelf for a month and see if it gets better. Honestly, it is *okay* on your wrist and doesn't really reek, but there is a hint of lemon Pledge unless you put your nose up to it. I love the bold interesting style & color of the face, but the smell of the band makes the whole watch only "okay" at best, which is the definition of 3-star. I honestly think I'll be able to wear it after it airs more and doesn't go in the box again, but I'll see in a month's time when I try it again.

PRESENTATION
It is very easy to set the time by the know. It arrives in a very nice yellow box, wrapped in a leather-like material, with stitching, and a wavy pattern molded on top, and felt lined. It makes a very nice presentation when opened for the first time, especially compared to plastic packaging of off the shelf watches.

The Invicta watch is certainly a good value. My major disappointment was that I assumed it would be easy to read in the dark. In other words I expected it to glow in the dark. It doesn't. If it glowed like a Luminox, it would be perfect!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A watch just like me... it has a really big face., January 11, 2012
This review is from: Invicta Men's 1906 Specialty Collection Swiss Quartz Watch (Watch)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Invicta 1906 is, first of all, a big watch. It's good and weighty, hefty if you will, and has drawn several comments about its size and how it can be read by coworkers easily from across the meeting table. The numbers are big, the bezel is big and brilliantly brassy; very shiny and handsome. It's very warm-looking for a prominently brown watch, and if you happen to be someone into fashion and matching accessories (which I'm really not), then this watch will go well with your "earth tones." Heh heh. My wife and friends will laugh at that last line, but it's true!

The band is a very heavy duty, thick-as-a-hand-eraser plastic that is quite rigid through flexible enough to do what it needs to do. I personally don't like the band because I think it cheapens what turly is an elegant, though a mite bawdy white-numbered watchface. I wonder how difficult it would be to refit the watch with a good leather band because I think the watch is deserving of something that matches more appropriately.

The one thing I really don't like about the watch is the absence of a date window. It has a second hand, and hour hand, and a minute hand, and that's it. This watch is big, and a window hand could fit in there very easily, but no such luck.

Lastly, it is absolutely silent; there's no ticking watch here!

In short, I really do like this watch a lot even with the lack of a date window and with the toy-grade, hard rubber watchband. It is a sharp timepiece which announces itself loudly but with class.

***One more thing*** If you buy this watch, I'm curious to find out if the same thing happens to you... when I opened the box, I was overwhelmed (literally; I did a cartoonish "BOING" face) with the smell of, well, lemon-fresh pledge. Please comment if the same thing happens to you. After wearing the watch for weeks, I can still smell the lemony scent on the band. It's odd.

Love the watch! Product is everything I expected and some. Only drawback for me is the smell. Smells like auto air freshener. Trying to get the smell out of the band with alcohol.

I love this watch and the lemon smell. Can't really complain to much, look at the price. The night glow is blue which is my favorite color so that is a plus. It's not a gaudy watch unlike some of my other watches which are a bit much. I don't care i'm a watch freak. The color is amazing and the rose gold tone is bright. I would recommend this watch to my boys if they can stand the lemon fresh smell lol. . .
