4.0 out of 5 stars A great timepiece for a great price, November 5, 2007

This review is from: Invicta 9773 II Collection Rose-Gold Skeleton Pocket Watch (Watch)
For the money, I don't think you'll find a better pocketwatch. I went with this versus Invicta's other models mainly because I was looking for the largest watch-face they offer, and I believe this model is about as close as I could get. Even then, it still feels slightly smaller than what I'd like in a pocketwatch (give me heft!), but it's construction is top notch. It is a beautiful watch to look at and the gold chain adds a touch of sophistication to almost any outfit.
While I've only had the product for a few weeks, I feel it is a strong pocketwatch. The included warranty definitely reassures me as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars really, really cool watch at a great price!, October 4, 2007
This review is from: Invicta 9773 II Collection Rose-Gold Skeleton Pocket Watch (Watch)
I just bought this watch about a week ago. I wanted to try to bring back the whole pocket watch thing- I like novelty and quirky stuff. This watch is really amazing! When I'm bored, I sit and watch the springs and mechanisms turn. Best of all, it's hand wind, so there's never any battery to replace! This is truly a high class, high quality piece of art. The rose gold is beautiful too - a kind of copper finish that really looks awesome! Buy this watch - you won't be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars classy entry level time piece., November 27, 2008
This review is from: Invicta 9773 II Collection Rose-Gold Skeleton Pocket Watch (Watch)
i'm not the type of person to use a watch so you know this review will be totally unbiased. i originally was looking for a locket for a friend of mine and then got sidetracked looking at watches. not one to wear things on my wrist, or much jewelry for that matter, i knew i wouldn't really buy anything. but then i came across a pocketwatch and started a new search. i can appreciate a nice watch and the fact that thry're dificult to make, explaining the absurd prices for the higher end stuff. i don't really like to show off though, so the idea of carrying an eye catching timepiece in my pocket, not always catching peoples eyes, sort of appealed to me.

people that think i'm lazy and unprofessional because i don't wear a watch, see me pull this thing out of my pocket and really don't know what to think. i prefer it that way because they have to talk to me to figure me out, if they're so inclined. i don't wear wristwatches very often, so i tell time by just looking at my phone. having something in my pocket keep time for me was nothing new, only now, it's something a little more anachronistic and quirky.

this example, being plated in rose gold, further stands out from your usual yellow gold or silver plated pieces. seeing it in person, the hue is a little lighter than a new penny, leaning more towards pink than orange-y. it's a color that i believe most guys would be comfortable wearing. and i know that most guys favor a larger dial. while i don't think size really matters when it spends most of it's time out of sight, it does have a enough size to satisfy, so to speak. it has plenty of weight, too. probably not as heavy as contempory pocketwatches w/ a hunter case(all metel front and back lid), but heavy enough to make you cringe when you drop it on a hard floor... only done that once during my ownership.

along w/ being my first pocketwatch, it's also my first foray into the mechanical movements. this machine uses no batteries, but rather has you wind up the spring everyday, to store it's energy MECHANICALLY, hence the name. my experience w/ this watch has me expecting about 26-27 hours of life w/ every full wind up. results may vary. personally, much joy was had taking it out of the box and seeing something go from inanimate, to alive and ticking w/ just a few turns of the crown. the skeleton display is a treat, w/ plenty of effort put in to showcase the contrasting polished and machined surfaces of the movement.

after some research on the watchuseek forums, it is my understanding that this watch uses a skeleton version of invicta's standard movement, a majority of these being chinese. they are used in invicta's 9510 and 9738 silver tone pocketwatches, among others and use 17 jewels, some of the better factories use 19 jewels, a extra set for the main spring.

i'm the furthest thing from a watch expert, not really knowing what any of what the whole previous paragraph meant, until i researched this piece. some experts say quality is hit or miss, but for someone not too worried about stats, or say, someone buying this on a whim because it's something out of the ordinary, you could definately do a lot worse. it would make an excellent gift for a graduate, new groom... or someone that you know would space out for hours watching all the gears move. we all know someone like that. if you don't, then it's probably you. you'd like this thing. i got mine for well under a hundred bucks, and feel it was a great deal.
