Excellent Excellent Excellent, December 14, 2010
This review is from: Invicta Men's 4898 Corduba Diver Chronograph Watch (Watch)
I was able to land this watch for $99 plus shipping, and all I can say is, what a buy!
I consider myself a watch enthusiast but do not have the watch collection to back that up.
This is my first Invicta, but I have researched HUNDREDS of their models. I knew EXACTLY what I was getting into.
I'd read all the reviews, good and bad, and even seen this model and some of the divers in person at JcPenny.
The watch:
)Yes, everyone agrees, Invictas are MASSIVE. I personally LOVE it. I'm 6'5 and around 220. This watch wears well for me even though I'm not heftier/meatier. But honestly, go see one in person, these things are HHHHUUUGGGGEEEEE. The case itself is much larger than any large pocket watch I've ever seen.
)The quality seems to be spot on perfect. The only minor minor complaint may be the fact that the bar/latch that holds the crown screw seems a little floppy. I'll keep an eye on it but I'm not too worried.
)The design is also PERFECT. Honestly, and they say this all over Invicta reviews, but the pictures do NOT do it justice! In person there is so much more detail and it looks so much better. Take for instance the dial, in the picture it appears to be just all black, but in reality it is a gorgeous black and gray horizontal striped dial that is actually incredibly visible considering how invisible it is in the picture.
)Link adjustment is amazingly easy.
)Comes in a gorgeous box, although if you have a watch case, I'm not sure what you'd do with this box. I do wish it was possible/easier to remove the yellow clothed base in the box, there's no room for me to put my extra links inside the box, and there would be ample room underneath the cloth molding theyve inserted (you'll see what I'm talking about if you buy it). While hopefully I will never need them, I like to keep things like that JiC.
)This is my first chronograph watch. It took me a minute to figure out all the hands and settings and stuff, but they all work perfectly.
A note:
Many people complain of losing a screw or pin within the early days of receiving their watches, look, it shouldn't happen, but it does. Just prepare yourself to spend a little time getting this watch into gear before you put it on and go out for the day.
The pins for this specific watch are actually screw pins, each side using a small flat-head slot. I was able to use just a normal pair of small jewelers screwdrivers to do the link adjusting, and once I finished that, I went and tightened EVERY pin in the band.
Some of the pins WERE LOSE, but I knew that this was a possibility whenever I purchase any Invicta, or any watch in general. I recommend spending the extra 5 minutes to tighten them all, especially if you do not need to remove too many links, as you'd have less replacement pins if you ever did need them.
At the end of the day, this will be a mainstay watch on my hand, and I will be buying many many more Invictas.
