1.0 out of 5 stars Looked good new but went down hill from there
I bought this watch from Amazon in January 2009, based on previous reviews and a recommendation from a friend. I was impressed with the look of it when I received it and this impression continued for 5 or 6 months. Then I noticed that it was gaining time, by about 1 1/2 minutes per day. I can live with that, but then the bracelet broke and I couldn't fix it so I sent...

This review is from: Invicta Men's 2689 Pro Diver Collection Abyss Automatic Watch (Watch)
I am extremely impressed with the feel, look and general quality of the watch. It contains the Citizen Miyota 21 jewel automatic movement that is a true workhorse for a fraction of the price. The comfortable stainess steel pinned link bracelet is worth the price of the watch. It has rounded flexible brushed steel wrist links The foldover adjustable double safety clasp uses pins as well. Can easily be mistaken for a watch costing much more. The Mineral Glass crystal is scratch resistant - but not as good as a sapphire watch face, but is less prone to chipping or shattering than a sapphire crystal. The display watchback is also mineral glass - displaying the undecorated Miyota automatic movement. It look as stylish and run as well as my other watches, and, I receive as many comments if not more from the Invicta's. It is a great looking watch! Good value, accurate and stylish if you like the Sub' look. This is a good day-to-day knock about watch that still looks better than the quartz stuff in the same price band. If it lasts 5 years it's more than paid for itself. If you would like more information and talk with others about Invicta's or other watches visit www.thewatchcentral.com. This review is from: Invicta Men's 2689 Pro Diver Collection Abyss Automatic Watch (Watch)
This Invicta Abyss is an eye looker! People will look at this watch and think you are wearing a watch that is in the thousands. Everytime I wear this watch people always tell me how good it looks. If you are a 1st time collector this is where you should start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well made watch., May 28, 2007

This review is from: Invicta Men's 2689 Pro Diver Collection Abyss Automatic Watch (Watch)
I already own a number of Invictas and I was impressed by its quality. Very robust and well made. The black Mother of Pearl face is very subtle, in some circumstances looking merely black but in other conditions a sheen of green, blue and purple can be seen. The gold plating is yellower than what I've seen on my Citizens but still looks great. The case is brushed on top and polished on the sides and bottom, the bracelet follows suit with the inside links being polished and the outer links brushed. The photo doesn't do the watch justice, but no picture ever does any watch justice. The markings on the bezel match the gold of the case better than the photo implies. The day indicator can display English as well as Spanish. The large hour indexes make the watch quick to read at a glance, and it's easy to read in the dark with large luminous hands. I've had this watch for 2 months and it's only gained approximately 15 seconds, outstanding accuracy for any automatic in this price range. The watch's dimensions are a 45mm case width including the crown, and it's about 13mm thick. There's a ring with a horizontal bar that is around and across the exhibition back, and as other reviewers have noted it can make the watch uncomfortable. Its two screws are easily removed, and its deletion makes the watch much more comfortable. The screws don't go through the case so there's no concern with water resistance. Amazon's shipping was right on time, with only 2 days between ordering and delivery. If you want a shiny gold automatic watch, you can't go wrong here. Invicta makes a quality automatic and the price is unbeatable.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS WATCH PACKS A PUNCH, January 16, 2008
This review is from: Invicta Men's 2689 Pro Diver Collection Abyss Automatic Watch (Watch)
For those of you sitting on the fence agonizing over whether to make the purchase or not let me assure you that there will be NO regrets. This is my third Invicta purchase. The first purhase was last year and I actually stumbled over a used Pro Diver. That watch has lasted with virtually no way of knowing that it has been worn at all. My second purchase was through Amazon as I purchased a Grand Diver and I was simply amazed at the craftmanship and detail provided to that watch. However, knowing that I would wear the Grand Diver for special events only such as Business Meetings etc, I needed to purchase a watch that looked sporty however still maintained a dressy fashionanble look at the same time. Enter the Invicta Men's Pro Diver Collection Abyss Automatic Watch. The attention to detail is remarkable! When I viewed the picture on Amazon it appeared to be blue however after contacting Invicta personally I was assured it was a Black face. I had asked the Representative why I shouldn't just purchase the Pro Diver Black Faced Watch and was told "I would not look as buff." And right he was! At certain angles the Black face does adopt several differing shades of sapphire, blue which simply adds to the value. When I first opened the box I swear it looked just like a Submariner from Rolex. During my ownership with my first watch I have never lost any time however since it is an automatic watch if you do not like to set the time every other day you may want to invest in an automotic watch winder. However, despite my adjusting it every other day I have seen no wear on the adjustment knob and once again not one scratch or discoloration which I have experienced with other watches. The dial on this watch encompasses markers for the numbers which illuminate and they stay illuminated for extended periods of time. The watch also has day and date on the face allowing me to remember important dates. The band is simply exceptional craftmanship. The case is 44 mm in diameter including the crown and is 15 mm thick. I anticipate many comments on this watch and will update as I get them. Once again, if you are sitting on the fence worried how it is going to look go ahead and make the purchase as the Mother of Pearl truly makes the watch look elegant. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

I have several Invitcas. All are automatic pro divers. This was the latest one I purchased. It is a beaut. It has good weight and looks a little like a Rolex. I do own one of the real ones, but this one was a whole lot cheaper and still looks great. It just looks like a classy watch on the arm. Well worth the price I paid on Amazon and the shipping was fast.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Watch, and a fair deal today.., April 19, 2009
This review is from: Invicta Men's 2689 Pro Diver Collection Abyss Automatic Watch (Watch)
This watch is good for a large man, and it has a very good automatic Japanese movement which keeps good time.

A few months back this was on a Gold Box special for around $30.00 less than the price presently. But, at either price, you really get your monies worth with this watch. Other sellers have offered it as low as $89.00, but not often.

It has the Miyota 8215 21 Jewel Automatic movement, made in Japan. This 21-Jewel movement features unidirectional winding, has a day/date calendar, and beats at 21,600 bph. It is very comparable to the Swiss ETA 2824-2 25 Jewel Automatic movement that is used in $1,000+ watches, and costs more than twice its price of the Japanese movement.

The 21 Jewel Miyota 8215 can be bought on the internet for about $37, and is used in watches priced from $100 and up. The standard movement for a quality watch is 17 jewels or more, while cheaper watches may have only seven to 15 jewels.

Based on price, this Invicta watch is a good value, with most web sites selling it for $125, and up to as much as $145+

I bought this watch from Amazon in January 2009, based on previous reviews and a recommendation from a friend. I was impressed with the look of it when I received it and this impression continued for 5 or 6 months. Then I noticed that it was gaining time, by about 1 1/2 minutes per day. I can live with that, but then the bracelet broke and I couldn't fix it so I sent it to a Jeweler for repair. This repair lasted only a few days and then broke again and I lost part of the bracelet. I then removed the link completely and then expanded it at the clasp. Then last week, the watch stopped for no good reason. I reset it and then it worked until last night, when the 12th hour decal feel off from the face (it looks to have been lightly glued in place) and it tangled up with the minute and hour hands, stopping the watch again. I got it in a place underneath the glass so that it wouldn't impede the hands and reset it and carefully laid it on the table until this morning. It had again stopped when I had looked at it. Oh, did I mention that the gold tone was already wearing off at the divers minute ring and at the clasp.

I can not say how disappointed I am in this watch. It's time to go back to Seiko or Casio for my everyday watch.

I have not yet worn the watch. It is a Christmas gift my wife is giving me. I played with it a bit before it got wrapped. I think it is beautiful. I have not had an automatic watch in years, and I own over 20 watches, so I may have to buy a winder. Anxious to wear it on a daily basis.

I was looking for an affordable watch with automatic movement, a clear, uncomplicated, display (not a fan of watches with 98 dials on the face, I just want to know the time, thanks). This watch looks great and it fits my large wrist right out of the box (it has a nice box too BTW). It's a bit heavy, but I like knowing it's there.

Note: Amazon did not have a picture of this watch's back, which is quite nice, so I uploaded one!

This particular automatic watch, the #2689 "Abyss", has some nice features that are not typical of most of the other Invicta autos:
- the day AND date displayed at the "3" position
- a beautifully detailed diametric cross-bar on the exhibition back
I have several automatics, by Invicta as well as other makers, and none have the same type of back, and only 2 others have the day/date function (older Japanese automatics from about 5-6 years ago...they were called "Rotomatics").
The sister #2687 model is a similar watch with a bit less gold for those wanting a more understated look.

David Burrell says it well in his review, so I won't be redundant with the other details.
