5.0 out of 5 stars Best Dive Watch Value
Invicta's 8928 is a two tone model of the dive watch that started it all - the 8926! The watch utilizes 23k gold plate which wears rather well on the crown and bezel - less so on the bracelet for an overall look rivaling the Rolex Submariner. Let's take a tour of this $100 price range diving watch and note the value and style of the timepiece:

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the watch, not the performance
I have owned two of this style Invicta Watch, and although I love the style and appearance, both have had problems. I thought the first was just a lemon, and although the second is better, both have trouble when you take them off, sometimes just long enough to change clothes or take a shower. Both have stopped working even when I keep them on over night. One vendor...

Movement

The Citizen Miyota 21 jewel movement rivals Swiss automatic movements for a fraction of the price. If it has any weakness - it is in the small power reserve - losing it's mainspring energy with less than one day off the wrist. IF not worn everyday- it should be put on a programmable watch winder or manually wound. The second hand will not "hack" with this movement. A date (complication) window shows at the 3 o'clock position. It must be manually adjusted every February and other 30 day months.

Case

The 43mm (with crown) 316L brushed stainless steel case wears comfortably on the wrist. The case lugs are modestly curved to accomodate wrists of all sizes. The new model (larger) gold plated screw down crown looks elegent as it contrasts the case.

The blue dive bezel - unidirectional 120 clicks around - is scalloped like the Omega Seamaster and is a departure from older model 8928's which flaunted a Rolex like "coin edge" bezel. Under pressure from Rolex it was changed by Invicta two years ago. The blue enamal is vey scratch resistant - the numbers more copper color than gold.

The Mineral Glass crystal is scratch resistant - but not nearly as much as a more desirable sapphire watch face (imprinted only by diamond) which could double the cost of the watch. Mineral glass is less prone to chipping or shattering than a sapphire crystal. The display watchback is also mineral glass - displaying the undecorated Miyota automatic movement. Mineral glass backs are less likely to cause skin irritation than a stainless steel backed case.

A date magnifier (Cyclops) at the 3 o'clock position carries on the Submariner theme. The gold watch hands contrast wonderfully with the Invicta blue dial. The LUME off the watch hands and number positions is modest - both in brightness and longevity as compared to more expensive dive watches. A "winged" Invicta symbol decorates the counter - balanced side of the gold second hand. An elegent "INVICTA" product name is embossed on the left side of the case. The watch is rated as a Professional Diver 200M (660 feet) water resistant.

Bracelet

The comfortable two tone stainess steel pinned link bracelet is worth the price of the watch. Solid end links, rounded flexible wrist links set off the gold plated center links - all made to look like the Rolex Oyster bracelet. The bracelet's gold center links are the only 23k gold plating prone to scratching. The foldover adjustable double safety clasp uses pins as well. There is no wetsuit deployment clasp as found in more expensive watches.

CONCLUSION

Rated 5 Stars because of value and features, the Invicta 89XX series of Professional Dive Watches has kept the company in the forefront of automatic movement watch manufacturers. No one can touch Invicta in the $100 area Pro-diver price range. Fit, finish, design, value and quality cannot be beat. This IS the leader in its class. Those desiring a Swiss made watch with Sapphire crystal and heftier bracelet should first look at the Invicta 9938 for about threetimes the price.

It's a great watch for the price. I think I paid $130 for it. Sure, the swiss 25 jewel movement version is nicer, but I thought I'd try the lower-end 21 jewel. It runs great, keeps good time, and is probably one of the best watches you can get for the money. High quality work, very close in look/feel/weight to a R*lex. We'll have to see how the gold plating wears over time, but other than that, it's a great watch.

EDIT: Had to change my review, the movement has been giving me problems, first I couldn't quick-set the date, now the hands jump when trying to set the time, and the second hand stops on me even when it's running.

The case, the band, everything else is top notch for a $150 watch, but the cheap automatic movement really ruins it. In my opinion, get the one with the 25jewel swiss movement, and pay the extra $100. I have to send mine back for a warranty repair, and wish I would have bought the other one first.

One vendor recommended winding the stem before putting them on each day, but all other automatic watches have had enough charge to keep on ticking. Perhaps I got spoiled by my first Seiko, which performed flawlessly for over 25 years.

I was lucky to purchase Invicta watch #6020 (awesome) & Invicta watch #8928. Even though model #8928 looks cool, it doesn't work. I lose 20 minutes to 5 hours a night. FRUSTRATING !!
I tried to return it to Amazon but the return process just kept going in circles and guess what? I'm stuck with a $73 watch + International shipping/handling, tarrifs, etc. for almost $100.00. This watch turned out to be a ripp off since I can't return it to Amazon. Maybe if you lived in the Continental USA you'd be able to return it. I don't know why this watch doesn't work ... it just doesn't. I don't know why I couldn't return it, I just couldn't.
Oh yeah. It also cost me $10.00 to adjust the watch band. The watch looks real cool sitting in my winder though. Just don't wear it.
In my opinion this watch is garbage, a dud!

2.0 out of 5 stars Avoid the "automatic", July 31, 2011

This review is from: Invicta Men's 8928 Pro Diver Collection Automatic Watch (Watch)
I recently purchased this as a daily beater watch that can be worn to work. I read the reviews and had some concern with the automatic but decided to take my chances. Now I am preparing to box it back up to send back. This morning was the 4th time I had to reset the watch in just two weeks. This is with fairly steady usage. However, if you don't wear it one day, then it will stop. That defeats any practicality for this watch. Today was the second time where it didn't make it overnight- the kinetic storage for this is just too small.
That being said, I like the looks and style, build quality seems fine (other than the automatic function). I am taking the return money and getting the quartz version so I can have a watch that does something radical.. tell you the time when you pick it up off the table.

2.0 out of 5 stars Broken on Arrival, July 9, 2010

This watch definitely looks fantastic, but it was messed up on arrival. The crown on these types (I also have the 8926) unscrews so you can make adjustments to the time, date, and wind it. As I was unscrewing the crown, the date started changing before it was all the way out. That's not supposed to happen until the crown is all the way out and pulled out one click. When screwing the crown back in, the watch is still winding as it is going in, and the crown binds and won't go in any further. After a few tries, it went in.

I don't know how a watch like this would get out of the door at Invicta. That means nobody even checked the functionality of the watch after it was assembled, or or they didn't care, or they were incompetent. This wouldn't have been a hard problem to find if it was just checked! It would only have taken a few seconds. Back it goes.

I know it's hard to expect perfection at this price point, but if they had to charge a little more to have the watch checked before it leaves the factory, I think that would be a good thing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Comfortable, December 1, 2009
By

This review is from: Invicta Men's 8928 Pro Diver Collection Automatic Watch (Watch)
I purchased the Japanese auto, coin bezel version a couple years ago. I really researched this company and read the reviews, etc. I was skeptical but went for it.

The bottom line is I don't wear it. It is heavy which is of course obvious, and owning "Tags" in the past, you do get use to this. But my main gripe is it is a bit PAINFUL to wear. The edges are fairly sharp, and really dig into my wrist. In fact I would say it hurts to wear it. I will sometimes wear it "out", but take it off and hand it to my wife to put in her purse. Maybe they could have spent just a little extra time on the design and rolled the edges, or something.

Now it looks really nice just like the Rolex. In fact from a few feet most people, including me, could not tell the difference. I could see why Rolex had an issue with this watch and the coin bezel.

As far as the time keeping goes. I really don't know about how accurate it is. First off I don't really care about that feature since I kinda tend to use my phone these days for that. Second I don't wear it long enough to know how well it keeps time. Third for $90.00 or so bucks I paid I don't expect precision.

One more thing. I believe the blue gold finish is a bit too soft on the bezel. I had it for a couple of days and got a BIG scratch on it. I swear I did not do anything abusive to it, in fact I was babying it since it was my new baby. ??

Looks good, but feels terrible! And I guess you get what you pay for.

Hope this helps.

This watch has the ability to be dressed up or down. Great watch for the money, looks sharp with jeans or a suit. My rotating bezel came very stiff, but other than that, I always love it when its on my wrist! Definately buy this watch!
