5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Read
Invincible Summer by Jean Ferris is a fabulous book for teenagers. The words are not too complex and it is a quick read, but the plot is uplifting and precious. While reading this book I felt emotionally charged, I cried, I laughed, I fell in love, and I suffered.

This novel tells the story of a 17 year old girl diagnosed with Leukemia. When diagnosed, she is...

2.0 out of 5 stars This Book Leads Teenagers Down Dangerous Path
If you are considering buying this book for a child--Watch Out!! Under the facade of teenage love, this book earns a position front and center among the literature which tells kids "young teens having sex, "making love", with other teens is really great!" In the story Robin falls in love with Rick and can't wait to spend another weekend at the motel with him---Without her...

4.0 out of 5 stars For All Seasons, August 6, 2003
Rick and Robin are soulmates, but the tragedy is that they are both fughting leukemia...this book's going to make some people cry so be sure the tissue box is full and close by.

I almost gave this amazing story 5 stars.Only Jean Ferris' talk of God made me lower it...for the reason that I'm not too sure she likes Him.

Robin's virginity issue couldn't have been handled more tastefully.

Invincible Summer follows Rick and Robin's relationship through each of the 4 seasons.

This is a beautiful and gripping story but expect it to end with a question mark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Read, June 18, 2003
This review is from: Invincible Summer (Hardcover)
Invincible Summer by Jean Ferris is a fabulous book for teenagers. The words are not too complex and it is a quick read, but the plot is uplifting and precious. While reading this book I felt emotionally charged, I cried, I laughed, I fell in love, and I suffered.

This novel tells the story of a 17 year old girl diagnosed with Leukemia. When diagnosed, she is confronted with fears she had never known before. But as she struggles through chemo-therapy and the effects, she meets a boy, also with leukemia, who shares her pain. These two teenagers experience true love. They feel together and love together. And although they do have sex (I see a parent disagrees in an earlier review) the author does not include any details unapropriate for the age group and adds it in addition to the love they feel, not as proof of the love they feel. Now, that I've argued my point. I will encourage every reader to get this novel (from a library or amazon.) It is an easy and quick read, but it will touch you and teach you. It's DEFINITELY worth the read!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of the best books I've read for a long time!, September 6, 1996

I LOVE this book because it shows what people with Leukemia
go through, feeling all alone and that it takes someone else
with Leukemia to comfort them because they understand what
they're going through. This story made me think about how
I act to people with cancer.

This book tells the story of Robin and Rick, and their battles against cancer. In a beautifully simple way, it reveals the pain, the anger, and the fear all those who face a serious illness suffer, with their loved ones. Some of the scenes are absolutely hilarious (Litvark, anyone?) and some are so poignant, they brought me to tears. A sensitive, beautiful life-affirming look at the realities of illness and death. One of the best young adult books I have ever read.

This is a very emotional story, very easy read but also with a deep content. It made me cry, it made me smile, and even though the end is not a happy one it left me with a good taste of mouth and very positive feeling about life

5.0 out of 5 stars Invinvcible Summer, July 21, 2003

This review is from: Invincible Summer (Hardcover)
I highly recommend Invincible Summer. This book is very well written. It keeps your attention to the point were you cannot put the book down. Robin was speechless when the doctor told her she had leukemia. Dr. Schwartz said, "All indications are that Robin has acute lymphocytic leukemia." I believe girls from the age eleven and older would enjoy this book the most because it is a love story. For example, the book tells about how two people met in a difficult time and despite everything they fell in love. "I will always love you, I wish I can marry you right now," Robin tells Rick. If you like to read love stories, then this is the perfect book for you.
