THE INVISIBLE KILLER (1939) - Grace Bradley, Roland Drew, William Newell, Alex Callam, Frank Coletti
After watching this crime drama closely I was ultimately baffled by a vague plot. Apparently, it's about an insouciant but perky girl reporter who tries to find a mysterious killer before a detective can. Involves poison delivered via a phone mouthpiece, but who's killed and what for eluded me. Rated 4.1 at imdb, so maybe I'm not alone in my confusion? ALPHA VIDEO is a provider of vintage programming that's often unavailable elsewhere. Alpha's prices are fair, but so is transfer quality of some of their offerings. None have undergone restoration, yet this product's rareness and reasonable cost make it a worthwhile purchase. Also from ALPHA: FEMALE FUGITIVE (1938) is another crime story with a woman lead. Here, Peggy Mallory (Evelyn Venable) and her trucking company owner husband Jim (Craig Reynolds) find themselves on the run when a cop investigating hijackers is killed in a shootout.
