5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly inspiring little book!
A friend of mine loaned me a copy of her book ~~ and it came at a time when sometimes I do feel invisible! Ok, I don't feel invisible with my husband and children ~~ but among friends and other family members, I do feel underappreciated and invisible at times! This book really hit close to the heart and it is a lovely reminder that nothing I do is invisible to God...

1.0 out of 5 stars Insulting.
God didn't create us to be doormats. Women shouldn't be invisible with nothing to hope for but more invisibility. My assessment: Treacly clap-trap, from a treacle/snake-oil saleswoman.

I am female, I am Christian, and I am woman: hear me roar.

Reminds me of all the things I dislike in contemporary Christian culture: pop-psychology, pabulum, and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly inspiring little book!, August 2, 2005
This review is from: The Invisible Woman: A Special Story for Mothers (Hardcover)
A friend of mine loaned me a copy of her book ~~ and it came at a time when sometimes I do feel invisible! Ok, I don't feel invisible with my husband and children ~~ but among friends and other family members, I do feel underappreciated and invisible at times! This book really hit close to the heart and it is a lovely reminder that nothing I do is invisible to God!

This is a story of a woman who feels invisible ~~ her children will not acknowledge her presence sometimes and nor will her husband. She feels invisible walking among the living in her house. She mentions it to a friend of hers who was leaving for a trip to Europe. When she came back from Europe, she gives the main character a picture book on catherals. And from there, Charlotte realizes that even she isn't invisible to God.

It's incredibly inspiring and wonderful! It is a graceful reminder of God's love for you and me. It's a definite book that you will want to buy for every woman in your life ~~ and what is so nice about it is, that it's not preachy!

It's a great addition to your library and it's a thoughtful gift to share!

5.0 out of 5 stars Looks are deceiving..., April 1, 2006

"The Invisible Woman" is a small book with only 3 chapters. It could appear to be a quick read but don't read it quickly. Take your time and meditate on what the main character, Charlotte Fisher, discovers...small sparrows carved into a beam that no one but God will see...builders who began but would never see the finished work...people who were unknown to man but not to God. Author, Nicole Johnson understands the real power of invisibility as do many others whose names remain unknown to us.

This is an amazing book! It really gives mothers a reminder that all the little things we do really don't go unnoticed. It motivated me for the next day of motherhood, and I re-read it a lot. A great gift for new moms, or moms who just need a big spiritual hug!

What a terrific book! I would highly recommend it, especially to stay-home moms and wives. It really puts into words some of the frustrations I've had during my time at home. Nicole is such a gifted dramatist and writer. You need this in your bookcase.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem. Wonderful., July 14, 2009
By
Holly (United States) - See all my reviews
I first heard about Nicole Johnson when I saw a You Tube video sketch of her talking about The Invisible Woman. It touched me and made me search out her book. And her book did not disappoint.

How often do women feel invisible? We give our all to being good wives and mothers, but sometimes our efforts are unappreciated and often unnoticed. Nicole addresses this issue in profound ways. She uses the example of a woman named Charlotte who, after confiding in a friend about her invisibility, receives a book about the great cathedrals in Europe. These great cathedrals often took so long to build that many of the workmen would never live to see them finished. Yet, they put their best work into those cathedrals because they knew that God would see that work.

Nicole says, "At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride." That one line touched me so much.

She also said, "When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, "My mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table." That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, "You're gonna love it there." That's what I want my boys to say too.

There was a wonderful section on using your invisibility for the good of others, rather than focusing on ourselves.

This little book is a gem. It's a short, inspiring read. It would make a perfect gift. I checked it out of the library, but I want to get my own copy so that I can re-read it again, and again.

This is a short, gift-book style book aimed mainly at Christian stay at home mothers. I found it encouraging and uplifting. It was a quick read too. I've read through it twice and will keep it on hand to read again. It think it would make a nice gift too.
The point is that we should do our work unto God and not unto man. God sees all of the mundane acts of service we do in a day even if they go unnoticed by those around us.

This book affirms what we already know...that women can so often become invisible...or feel that way. Treat yourself to a deeper understanding of life as a busy woman.

This is such a great book and full of encouragement. If you're overwhelmed with responsibility, tired and feeling like you're a hamster on a wheel as a woman, this book is filled with blessings for you. It's an affirmation that our lives are living testimonies and we are living them for the glory of the Lord - no matter how small we think our endeavors are. I bought the book after hearing an excerpt of it. It touched me so much that I bought 3 more to give to my daughters and daughter-in-law for Christmas.
