This book is 100% photographs aside from a very brief introduction. The photographs are lovely and interesting, but I was hoping for something more like Dear Friends: American Photographs of Men Together -- something that included commentary and information about the era or whatever could be gleaned about the pictures (captions, etc). I have a hard time looking at pages of photos with no breaks or grouping or context, they all start to blur together.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the book, I guess I just wanted something else.

What an Amazing collection! It's exactly as described: a portfolio of portraits. So if you're looking for text, this isn't the book for you. It's awesome to see vintage images of loving couples, friends having fun in the face of the secrecy they were forced to endure. A must have for your coffee table.

Each October we celebrate LGBT History Month, but how much do we really know about this history? Truth is that the story and history of the LGBT community did not start with the Stonewall Riots, in June of 1969; nor with the murder of Matthew Shepard, in October of 1998. And, as important issues as they may be, DADT, DOMA and the ongoing fight for marriage and other kinds of equality, these issues are not the only ones defining the LGBT community.

As contemporary artist and filmmaker Sebastien Lifshitz proves in his documentary, The Invisibles, the LGBT community has been around for many years, decades, and even centuries. To reiterate the message, his book, The Invisibles: Vintage Portraits of Love and Pride, offers a unique collection of photographs he picked up at flea markets, over a period of time. These images of gay couples and individuals from pre-Stonewall twentieth century (1900-1960)--a time when being gay or lesbian "meant belonging to a genealogy of suffering," to a dramatic and even tragic destiny, these images shed light on the LGBT community and life at that time, through surprising stories, invisible until now. Images of “the invisibles” offer a glimpse into the lives of their subjects and, with that, some of the intimate, tender, loving and peaceful moments they shared secretly, in spite of the difficulties of the times in which they lived.

The Invisibles makes visible a vital part of LGBT history often left untold. It adds the missing pieces to complete the puzzle that defines the community we celebrate each October. It also helps us discover and understand an important chapter of the LGBT story, one definitely worth learning about any month of the year.

A touching and heartwarming collection of vintage photos, some of them sly and whimsical. They tell the story; no words needed.

This book is really a small wonder. It shows a world we thought never existed, and the pictures are so full of life.
I was a bit surprised there was no more text - but it goes well with the topic, leaving place for imagination and fascination.
I found a similar project on an Israeli website: http://rutiestern.wix.com/asfanit#!about1/c149l

This is a great book to flip through and sort of make your own captions as to what's going on. I love it! Nice coffee table book.

I like the content...but for the money...I would only say it is OK. If I had paid less, I would be much happier.
