Great Debut from a fantastic new talent...,

I've had this CD for quite a while, but never got around to listening to it until some of the tracks began to get air play. Shaun Groves is fantastic musician, singer and songwriter, and his skills are quite apparent throughout almost every song on "Invitation to Eavesdrop". Few arstists in Christian music have impacted me in the way that Shaun Groves has. "Move Me" and "Welcome Home" are fantastic tracks, and are worth the price of the album alone. I recommend this CD to anyone...

Ladies and Gentleman, I would like to introduce to you, the freshest, no make that tightest debut album I've heard since Jennifer Knapp's Kansas. Now I have stated in the past that ever year there is that one particular artist that debuts and makes you sit up and take notice. Enter Shaun Groves. Originally intending to move to Nashvile solely as a songwriter for other artists, Groves' plan quickly took a turn when record label's started asking him to record solo. After signing with the splendid Rocketown Records and Monroe Jones producing, we have one of the best albums of the year, hands down. The disc opens up with one of the most unique lyrics to see from a Christian artist in a while. "Should I Tell Them" speaks of how Groves has many insecurities when trying to tell others about Christ. "Cause they're thirsty but my cup is empty/Come and meet me here in this place/'Cause I'm ashamed, and I'm unprepared/And I'm just plain afraid" Such vulnerability is rarely seen in artists today. However this isn't the only song in which Groves pours his insecurities to the listener. "Two Cents" speaks of how Groves can not give answers to his friends questions when he has questions of his own. Musically, this album is modern rock at its best with some worshipful tunes thrown in the mix. "Welcome Home" has to be one of the catchiest songs with more hooks in it since Avalon's "Testify to Love". "Move Me" and "Satellite" show that Groves can hold his own against any Modern Rock band today. Groves can really sing some soft ballads when he wants to also. "Your Renown" and "Abba Father" are great worship tunes sure to become classics in a church setting. Earlier this year I was very disappointed that there was no new artist that really grabbed my attention. However, Groves has filled that void and has recorded one of the most solid debut recording in years. Don't feel one incling of hesitation to "eavesdrop" on Groves, it would be well worth your time and money.

I first heard Shaun Groves when he was the opening act at a Jennifer Knapp/ Jars of Clay concert. I thought he was decent, but wasn't completely impressed. I saw him later on that same tour and was more impressed by him so I decided to take a major leap of faith and buy the cd. It was one of my best purchases. While he is pretty good in concert, this debut cd blows much of what I've heard recently out of the water. It is just that good. Radio singles include "Welcome Home" "Move Me" "After the Music Fades" and "Satellite". For me, the most moving tracks are "Should I Tell Them", which deals about the fear involved in talking about Christ, "Damage Done", and "Two Cents". All in all, this is one of the best cds in my collection and is clearly one of the best of the year it was released. Top of the line Christian music, and just good music in any category.
