neglected gem, May 16, 2010

This is really a 4 and a half star cd. Evita Cobo has a voice I find very attractive, good technique, good taste in songs (with a few pleasant surprises) and musicians. She sings a lyric with conviction and without affectation, a rare quality in someone I would still call a jazz singer. There is one medley on the cd- it is a stab at being clever which misses for me. The rest of the cd is solid straight ahead jazz and ballad singing. Her small band is likewise tasty. I've listened to this cd many times and wish she recorded more.
