5.0 out of 5 stars A real treasure chest of inspiration & ideas!

1.0 out of 5 stars A vanity piece--no real tips or suggestions for the reader.
While his work is lovely, I was hoping to find suggestions I could use to jumpstart my own creative ideas, not examine his portfolio. Regrettably, all examples in this book could only be accomplished by hiring a team of designers. If you've got a creative bug and want to craft your own simple, modest, engaging invitations and you're looking for some inspiration, some...

I'm an everyday person and a young, busy professional but when I'm entertaining, I want every personal and social event that I put on to have a touch of the extraordinary...otherwise, why bother?

Some might think that this is just a "vanity piece" but the ideas in this book aren't really there for you to duplicate; they show you what "can be" and offer a wealth of inspiration to those of us who don't want to send out pre-packaged Hallmark invites!

After getting this book a few weeks ago, I've lent it out twice and I've already adapted an idea or two from the book and also created some of my own to put extraordinary, unique touches on my wedding and pre-wedding party invites and print materials...and so can you!

As far as I'm concerned, the details he includes about the expensive celebrity parties are a fringe benefit...It doesn't mean that special invites are reserved for such lavish events. It's just an added touch of fun gossipy stuff like you'd see in "People" or "In Style" magazines!

Great job Marc Friedland!

Regrettably, all examples in this book could only be accomplished by hiring a team of designers. If you've got a creative bug and want to craft your own simple, modest, engaging invitations and you're looking for some inspiration, some groovy "how-to"--Forget this book. There's nothing here you can actually implement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awsome Ideas!, March 20, 2002
This review is from: Invitations (Hardcover)
I Rented this book from my local library. I jumped into it when i was asked to create my sister's wedding invitations. I got some awsome ideas from this book. Yes it is true that not all of the things in this book can be done by one person with out a professional team or printer, however, if you're clever enough you can still pull pieces and parts to put together your own.
The wedding invitations I made were a success and now everyone is talking about them! The invitations are the first impression people get about your party so it is very important to make them believe they have to attend!

5.0 out of 5 stars How many times do you read a USEFUL book?, January 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Invitations (Hardcover)
I used this book for my holiday party planning, and my response rate was 99%. Usually, I am lucky to get 75%, but with the help of the book, everyone was talking about the invitations. I even think the invitations overshadowed the party. I am already thinking of next year!

"Invitations", beautifully photographed and designed, gave me wonderful ideas and helpful hints to make my event a success! Mr. Friedland is a master of combining colors, materials and coming up with great concepts to theme any event. Whether it is for a bar mitzvah, birthday, or wedding, "Invitations" provides all of the essential and succesful ingredients to your party recipe.

Wow! My mum - so NOT a party lover - gave me this swell book, as she knows I LOVE a great party and love coming up with unique invites of my own.
I don't know where she came across it - probably at her local library, but I'm really happy that she did, & that she thought of me!
I disagree with the reviewer who stated something to the effect that only with a team of fab designers could anyone make these invites. Marc Friedland presents them, not to be copied exactly, but as jumping off, inspirational material from which to glean ideas. The presentation is gorgeous, with fabulous, clear photographs. *Invitations* could not be more packed with info on where to get supplies, how to choose looks, etc.
No, it's not a step-by-step how-to volume. But for those of us who want to make what we create truly our own, it couldn't be better.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book could have changed my life., January 26, 1999

Loved the book. Many examples of different kinds of invitations. I wish they had this book back when I was in the 3rd grade and I gave my girlfriend (even though she had the cooties) a Valentine's day card. Maybe we would have got married instead of her throwing mud in my eyes. Oh, what could have been...
