Not for wimps,
This review is from: Inviting God to Your Wedding: and Keeping God in Your Marriage (Hardcover)
This is the book I've spent months looking for: One that offers support, help, ideas and comfort to a bride and groom who are really seeking God. There are a few books written on "spiritual weddings" but none that are so straight-forward, honest and challenging. It's not about how to plan a ceremony that gives people warm-fuzzies. Instead, the author presents us with a loving, all-powerful, miracle-working God and stresses the importance of preparing the heart and soul for marriage, not just the guest-list, the gown and all the details (though she gives good advice on these subjects too.) Asking God to prepare you for marriage and having the courage to truly ask for His presence at your wedding and in your life is not a task for wimps, but the rewards are immeasurable.

A "must read" if you are about to walk down the aisle,

I would tell any bride to dump the wedding guides and read this book instead. It is more spiritual than religious and you will find yourself more cleansed and prepared for the big day and especially the days to follow. Martha includes inspirational stories and quotes and this book is a very easy read. There were so many wonderful words of wisdom and ideas to ponder over that I had to read it twice. Finally, I would like to say that my wedding day was beyond what I ever could have created because I invited God to be there. It is a simple act but I would have never thought of it had it not been for this book. It was a day I will never forget and it was even more wonderful because I was truly ready, spiritually and emotionally. This will be a well deserved retreat in the midst of the decisions and planning.

For those of you who want to be spiritually prepared for marriage... this book is for you. The planning and preparation of marriage/wedding can take us away from diety. This book helps you focus on God and ensure that God will be attending your wedding. For my fiance and myself this book has been a Godsend. It allowed us to talk about difficult things in a loving and Godly way. Hurray for this book...

I received this book as a birthday present, four months prior to my wedding. It came at the best time in my life; when I was overwhelmed in wedding planning and preparation. I can't remember God not being there for me, but I seemed to need Him so much more during that wonderful time. Ms. Williamson's book helped me put things in perspective while allowing me to put my heart's thoughts on paper. My husband and I desired to make our wedding ceremony a true worship experience. This book assisted in making sure that we shared our incredible love for God with others and the incredible love He gave us to give to one another. There are spaces available to journal your thoughts, jot down wedding ideas, and just write those words that we often find difficult to speak. The scripture references just touched our hearts (perfect for incorporating in your service, the prayers to read aloud were powerful and the words of encouragement were answers to prayer.Every marriage needs God in the center of it. Ms. Williamson's anointed words give guidance to making sure a couples' true focus belong on the Father. Only He can give perfect peace and unspeakable joy during the midst of all the planning and excitement and all the days that will follow. I hope reading this book touches another soul as it has touched mine.

A breath of fresh air.,
By Sophia Dahl (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Inviting God to Your Wedding: and Keeping God in Your Marriage (Hardcover)
This book is a revelation to anyone overwhelmed with the pressures of getting married and preparing a wedding. It will really help you put the focus back where it belongs, on your betrothed and on the sacredness of the rite you are about to undertake. Truly a breath of fresh air among the overpowered, facile and downright creepy expectations that so many wedding books try to implant. My thanks to the author!

Draws you both closer to God before the big day!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Inviting God to Your Wedding: and Keeping God in Your Marriage (Hardcover)
This book is wonderful! My husband and I read it together in the months before our wedding, taking turns writing our responses, praying together and talking about some issues that may not have come up otherwise (like "past loves"). This book really places the focus on the marriage and the sanctity of that covenant, and on keeping God at the center of the relationship. We can also now go back and read the notes we made to each other in the book, and remember how special that time was leading up to our wedding. Buy this book!!

Wait for the Video Rebuttal,

This review is from: Inviting God to Your Wedding: and Keeping God in Your Marriage (Hardcover)
For the New Yorker who wrote the review entitled "Wait for the Video, is defintely not a Christian. And also, is probably not married. This is an excellent book. The author is not trying to make you believe what she is saying, but sharing an experience, like most autobiographies.Maybe you should keep your personal comments to your self...non-believer.

This is a great read even for men. I am not a bible-thumper by any means, but this book gives some outstanding examples for keeping the religious aspect (God) in your wedding. This is the only wedding planning book that I have read for our wedding in 2002; I'll let my fiance read all of the others.

The First Invitation Says It All: God Is First,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Inviting God to Your Wedding: and Keeping God in Your Marriage (Paperback)
I bought this book almost 2 years ago. The book says to invite God first to your wedding and in my opinion that says it all! When a man and woman become one: God is blessing you and your spouse with the sacred gift of marriage (He created both of you) and should get the first invitation. I sat down, talked with God, prayed, cried and told Him how I felt and invited Him to our wedding and on our wedding day He made His presence known and blessed me and my husband with a ceremony that was filled with love overflowing, peace and abundant joy! THANK GOD. This book is worth buying.

I will get married in July and like any other (or most) brides I have the desire to have a memorable day. This book show me that if I put god first in my plans I will not only have a memorable day, but also I will make this day memorable for all my guests. Also this book helped me with the issue about who should I invite, how to deal with the ones that I do not invite. How to choose the ones that will be part of the wedding, how to deal with any issue that arise because of the in-laws and many other topics. I definitely suggest this gook for any bride despite of her religion.
