This review is from: Inviting Students to Learn: 100 Tips for Talking Effectively with Your Students (Paperback)
I am a scientist working with a major UN agency and on first glance thought that this book had very little relevance for me. I have managed large and small teams and am used to working in a cross-cultural environment and I figured that teaching techniques would not add value to my day to day efforts to motivate people and get the job done..I was very wrong!

The book is very well written and is also well referenced. The recommendations, which are written in easy to absorb small sections, are documented and based on the published scientific literature. There are checklists and other organization features that will help you to use this book to help others around you to better learn but perhaps most importantly change your own attitude toward motivating others and creating a postive work and/or teaching experience. Despite the obvious academic sophistication, the book is very readable and easy to understand.

The chapters on language tips are worth the price of the book on their own--you will soon find your students (and in my case the most jaded of colleagues) nodding their heads in agreement all through simple yet effective changes in language.

I read a few sections each morning and have given it to staff members to read as well--it has markedly changed our working attitude on our team and has also made us more effective in the organization. My teams' communications are markedly improving and we are achieving better results. Our goal is to use these approaches to effectively change the working environment in the Department!

By the way if you have children or are a teacher or principal the book is of course tailor made for you as well..

Buy this book--you will not be disappointed.
