4.0 out of 5 stars Dreamy, eclectic chants with world music underpinnings, October 1, 2006
This review is from: Invocation (Audio CD)
These mellow, reflective musical wanderings tend to defy description. A voice-culturist and voice-educator, Nakkach croons sacred chants and wordless vocals to the gentle, predominantly minor accompaniments of electronic keyboards, oboe, acoustic strings, and hand percussion. Part New Age, part world fusion, and all heart, Nakkach's resonant compositions are both comforting and hypnotic. Some of the tracks have been remixed and re-edited from her previous albums, although the liner notes don't specify which ones. Don't interpret "remixed" as weird sampling and clubby technobeats, though--this music is nothing like that! My favorite track is #4, "Healing," which builds from a simple, repeated phrase to a deeply cathartic melange of intertwining vocals, deep drones and beating drums. Most of the songs on "Invocation" start out minimalistically and develop in depth and texture as they go along, so don't judge them by the first thirty seconds or so offered by most listen-links. They're more interesting than that, even though most remain laid back throughout. In the liner notes, Nakkach writes: "Through words of power, seed syllables, deity calls and divine utterances, all spiritual traditions use vocal invocation as a primordial gateway to transcendence." And that's as good a word as any to describe this music: transcendent. For some more eclectic, spiritual music that explores chant and vocal technique, try also the work of Chloe Goodchild, Krishna Das, Vas, Sarband, "Awakening" by Robert Gass and "Illumination" by Richard Souther. And if you like the mysterious, reflective qualities of Nakkach's music, you might also enjoy albums by Nana Simopolous or Aine Minogue.

Abolutely amazing CD. I am a Yoga teacher and have just recently found (and introduced) "Invocation" to my students. It is perfect for taking us deep into our practice. It is utterly transporting, timeless and eternal. I am so glad I found Silvia Nakkach, and will now get all her other CDs. I recommend, without reservation this beautiful music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, March 15, 2006
This review is from: Invocation (Audio CD)
I absolutely love this CD. It is the perfect music to have playing in the background during massage sessions. It is very comforting, relaxing, and it taps into a certain spiritual and healing energy. I also recommend "Musical Massage: Inside" also by Sylvia Nakkach.
