Goddess Meditations,
By
This review is from: Invoke the Goddess; Visualizations of Hindu, Greek, and Egyptian Deities (Paperback)
The strength of this book lies in the ritual baths and goddess meditations. While I thought the meditations were a bit too structured and guided, I appreciated the creativity behind them. It did surprise me, however, that the suggestion was placed where a goddess may refuse you during the meditation. I think planting that idea in someone's head is defeating the purpose of the working. It would have been better to say "how does the goddess respond to you" instead of going into the meditation worry if the goddess is going to refuse you. Also, there was little mention of thanking that goddess for her gifts/audience.I thought the weakness of the book was in the Mundane Archetypes. For the most part, it gave the impression that the goddess are petty and the information did not necessarily follow the mythology presented earlier in the chapter - especially for Artemis (orgies?!). The book "Goddesses in Everywoman" by Jean Shinoda Bolen is a much better resources for this type of information. I think the author would have been better served to leave out these sections and maybe focussed more on the Tarot aspects. I would recommend this book for the ritual baths and meditations (with less structure). I would not turn to it as a resource for goddess information. However, I was inspired to check out the author's bibliography to see where she got her background information.

Great magickal information and Goddess Exploration,
By Raven Digitalis (Missoula, MT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Invoke the Goddess; Visualizations of Hindu, Greek, and Egyptian Deities (Paperback)
I have read this book and found it to be VERY helpful in my magickal practices. Kala Trobe's book is great; second to her other *Essential* book "The Witch's Guide To Life".. The deities focused in this book, "Invoke the Goddess," are of the Greek, Hindu & Egyptian pantheons; much like the Gods focused on in her other book "Invoke the Gods." This book goes into more detail about these particular Goddess archetypes than any other book I've seen. There are pages upon pages of essential information about each Deity. It's great! I have found the information to be extremely helpful for magickal work and invocation. I could not compare the detailed descriptions of the Deities within to any other book. If you are looking for a huge list of various gods and goddesses (that does not go into as much detail as this book), I would recommend Janet & Stewart Farrar's "The Witches' Goddess" & "The Witches' God".. However, if you are looking for more in-depth information about Deities of these particular paths (Greek, Hindu & Egyptian), I would highly recommend this book. I have seen it on more witches' bookshelves than I have the Buckland classics! All in all, it has helped out my practices and understanding of Deity to a much greater extent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Thanks Be to Kala Trobe!

One of the best Goddess books around,
By Elen Hawke "Elenhawke" (Oxford UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Invoke the Goddess; Visualizations of Hindu, Greek, and Egyptian Deities (Paperback)
This book is extremely well written, interesting and enjoyable. If you haven't done any meditations or visualisations, then you will find the book helpful, and if you are used to creative visualisations then you will get some fresh ideas. I found the information on the different goddesses fascinating, especially the Hindu goddesses, about which I knew comparitively little. The different female deities are used as a symbolic and archetypal interface with the divine, and also as a way of understanding the self and relationships with others. There are a lot of useful hints in the text, such as a grounding in the chakras and how to work with them, advice on diet, and such issues as how to prepare solarised gem elixiers. Each goddess section also gave preparations for and an outline of an interactive ritual to heal some part of your life. I'm not generally a great advocate of guided visualisations because so many of them are badly thought out, but the ones in this book seem to be based on sound psychic, spiritual and psychological knowledge. After reading the section on interacting with Isis, I actually felt that I had experienced a profound interchange with this goddess (one of my favourites). I also found myself delving through the chapter endings to see which of the mundane archetypes applied to me. Kala Trobe shows how it is possible for each of us to work with different goddesses in turn, according to our current needs. The book was very deep, but it was also readable and fun. This is certainly one of the most original and sound books on the subject i have ever read, and is founded on accurate research material and very valid spiritual principles.

New Views of Hindu Goddesses,
By chandra (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Invoke the Goddess; Visualizations of Hindu, Greek, and Egyptian Deities (Paperback)
I was pleasantly surprised to find a book on goddesses that covers Hindu as well as the usual Egyptian and Greek. Trobe does not treat them as mythological characters but as living entities that can be contacted and interacted with. This is true of all the goddesses she covers (fifteen in all), whether they are currently worshipped or not. All Trobe's descriptions were colorful and easy to visualize, and include some intense exercises like contacting Kali to help stop cycles of abuse. Religion can sometimes be sterile, but reading Kala Trobe's book makes the goddesses come alive.

Great Book!,
By Sierra (Vermont USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Invoke the Goddess; Visualizations of Hindu, Greek, and Egyptian Deities (Paperback)
This is the best book of Goddess visualizations that I have ever read. It has detailed and interesting information, but it isn't "thick" reading. There are also beautiful "stories" of some sort at the beginning of the explanation for each Goddess, which I have photocopied and hung up on the wall. =-) This was the first book I read by Kala Trobe but I definitely plan to buy more... In fact, she is one of my my three favorite authors ont he subject!

A good introduction to the Goddess,
By Boudica (Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Invoke the Goddess; Visualizations of Hindu, Greek, and Egyptian Deities (Paperback)
Kala Trobe chose five Goddesses from each of the Hindu, Greek and Egyptian pantheons and creates in this book a visual journey of introduction of these Goddesses for those who seek to become familiar with them, work with them and associate in the most intimate way we can.
Chosen here are some of the best known Goddesses from each of these pantheons, and explored are the attributes, experiences and emotional connections we can have with these Deities in our spiritual lives. The introduction of this book explains what the purpose of this book is, how to prepare to work with the visualizations, understanding Godforms and making personal preparations to meet and work with these Deities. There is also a very well done index table of many other Goddesses and their functions. Each Goddess section starts off with an 'introduction' to the Goddess, as told in a visualization. Each Goddess is then explored in her nature, her practical applications, preparation for approaching these Goddesses, specific visualizations calling upon each Deities specialities. There are healing aids, transition and change discussions and the chapter ends with a summary of the Mundane Archetypes outlining the Goddess' personality and Her aspects as seen in modern Western society today. Ms. Trobe offers some very interesting insights into the Goddess figures in this book. Durga is seen as a Goddess of Strength, Kali assists in overcoming cycles of abuse, Isis lends us powers of intuition and assists us in finding an ideal long-term partner, Hathor is the nurturer, Artemis is focused on sporting abilities and fitness, while we look to Hecate to help us overcome prejudice. The focus is here is to offer support in our search to better ourselves, in the form of the Goddess who will assist us in our quests. The book resounds with positive affirmations for those seeking self improvement. It is a 'take charge of your life through spirituality' book that is well written, nicely developed and contains some very lovely visualizations to help you work with Deity. If you are looking to touch Deity and don't know where to being, this is an ideal book for you.

Good book on basic visualizations,
By Moonbrooke (Tampa,FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Invoke the Goddess; Visualizations of Hindu, Greek, and Egyptian Deities (Paperback)
This book is good for one to understand the goddess and design working with goddess which is not bad i wish more goddess was list but still a good book over all just wish it was bigger i forgot with last review but i do agree with some other than idea a goddess will reject you i think there are better sources out there but this was a attempt but if you want to work with a goddess or draw to one. do the reseach on her and begin working with her. would recommend this book for the ritual baths and meditations (with less structure). I would not turn to it as a resource for goddess information. However, I was inspired to check out the author's bibliography to see where she got her background information. i would have given it 3 1/2 for being creative

INVOKE THE GODDESS by Kala Trobe Well its an informative book for those who wish to do meditative spells with the Goddes. She gives out the visualizations of Hindu, Greek and Egyptian Goddesses only. There are meditations to help you loose weight with Artemis, to banish your enemies and help render them powerless to hurt you and to face phobias with Kali. There is a meditation to build up courage and self confidence with Durga. She gives a good introduction and a good prep before each meditational spell. This book is excellent for women. Also she gives a bit of information on the chackras as well. Here is the full list of the feminine Deities that are delt with in each book. The Hindu Goddesses are ..
