5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Story, Good Read April 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm a sucker for beautiful cover art, so I was drawn to check out this story even though I don't usually read a lot of horror stuff. The description doesn't lie when it warns you that this is graphic, so keep that in mind if you're buying it. I've read a few horror genre titles, but the occult twist on it sounded really interesting. I found Isabella's character really compelling and the writing to be excellent. It's a pretty short read, but it was well worth checking out. I definitely recommend if you're into this kind of genre or just looking for something different.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting concept.....choose your lesser of two evils February 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the first review I have written for a book that has no reviews. I hope I do the book justice and that others will give this author a chance. I bought this when it was Free, so first thing: SHORT story, quick read only about 45 pages. I wouldn't purchase this book for more than $0.99 due to it's length.

Kinga Paine is a new author for me, and I must give KUDOS for putting forth a short story that was well written and free of the usual grammar butchery I have come to fear when reading free books. I usually do not read "occult horror" so it was definitely a different type of book for me--being more of a paranormal romance/Fantasy girl.

We find Isabella wanting to end her husband's life due to years of domestic abuse. She began sneaking out for 'support group' meetings and meets Nielsen who is more than happy to help her invoke a demon to kill her husband. Without giving away too much, it comes down to 1) be careful what you wish for 2) make sure you know what you are agreeing to and 3)when faced with two bad options, which is the lesser of 2 evils? As you can imagine, things do not go as she planned and she finds herself having to chose between an evil man or an evil dark one.

The author does a great job in describing the torture and it is definitely gruesome and violent. As warned in the product description--"may not be beneficial to a vulnerable mindset." No apologies are made for the demon and his methods of completing the pact made.

While I enjoyed reading it, I was left with a, "that's it!" feeling. I can't explain it, but maybe it would have left me satisfied if more time was taken expanding the characters. I look forward to reading other's reviews to see if someone else articulates my feelings better.

Recommend: Yes
Reread: usually I don't reread anything
Price: I wouldn't pay more than $0.99 due to length

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written horror book May 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book just shows how dark and evil this world can be, not just from demons but also from other humans. I think the book would be a bit better if it showed the possibility of being freed from all evil but apparently the characters in the book don't know about that. This isn't a book I would normally read but it peaked my interest and it was very engaging.
