Decent album, but not the best., November 21, 2004
This review is from: Inwire (Audio CD)
For those of you that are familiar with the debut album from Sven Gali (this is their 2nd album), the band made a drastic stylistic change for "Inwire." Gone are the pop-metal, '80s hair metal anthems. This album is pure GRUNGE rock. While most fans of the 1st album said they were extremely disappointed and felt the band "sold out," I think they still had a good thing going. But then again, I'm pretty open-minded. Even the debut had some more psychedelic tunes (e.g. In My Garden). The production is still very high quality: the sound is big and not overproduced. It's organic, but there's a lot of cool effects going on. The songs are strong and diverse. There are some heavy, rhythmic tracks, such as "Keeps Me Down" or "Helen," more moody, alternative type songs, such as "Make Me" and "Truth." There's also the mellow, acoustic closing song "Who Said?" and some hard-rocking, radio-friendly anthems (for the '90s!), such as the opening "What You Give" and "Worms." Great album, but if you are "stuck in the '80s," then avoid. This is more grunge than hair metal.
