5.0 out of 5 stars simply beautiful, March 3, 2001
This review is from: Io (Audio CD)
IO is the most beautiful album by this band which has been making good music for more than 10 years now. Their cds are usually not masterpieces, even though they contain many precious gems such as 'Souls', 'Conjure', or the most recent 'December Sadness' and 'Realm Center' or 'Carnival'; but there're two real masterpieces by this band: One is 'Eon:Eon'. The other one is 'IO' After more than a minute long intro consisting of a female voice repeating 'Growing like Io in space', the typical industrial beat of Project Pitchfork begins; 'IO' (the song) is a perfect beginning which introduce us into the elegant universe of this work; this has nothing to do with Skinny Puppy, and this album can actually not be compared to any other; 'The Gate' is a beautiful song without a perceptible chorus in which the voice sounds clearer than ever, beautiful and showing that Spilles's voice contains many nuances even if it's raw. 'The Silverthread' sounds similar to the previous song but here Nigiani sings almost the entire song; and it really works ok 'cos her voice is beautiful enough to make me dream of angels, contrasting with the somewhat diabolic voice of Spilles. The industrial rhythms, raw and full of orchestration reaches its peak with 'Carrion', one of the best PP songs ever, with a catchy chorus and several changes in rhythm which make it a never-boring track. With 'The Seeker' PP introduce the first guitars in this work; in fact this song is divided into 2 different rhythmic sections which alternate each other; an acoustic guitar adds a different feeling to this song; 'Swamps of Secrecy' is a decent song but not one of the best; it brings the album back to the more industrial sound after the guitar parenthesis of 'The Seeker'; 'Terra Incognita' is a song with a strange rhythm but catchy anyway. And when the work seemed a bit to go down there comes another of the gems: 'Antidote'. Somewhat similar to 'Carrion' but different, 'Antidote' is one of their best efforts in blending industrial rhythm and baroque atmospheres. The work ends with another good song and an insipid instrumental called 'Conclusion' IO goes deeper than their previous works and fortunately there's not a bad song here, unlike in 'Lam-Bras' or 'Entities'. And carries Project Pitchfork to a peak very difficult to surpass; One of the best industrial works of the decade, at least for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars An industrial masterpiece, May 11, 2000

SyntheticGod (Ithaca, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Io (Audio CD)
IO is one of those CD's that needs a bit of time to grow on you. As an industrial Dj, it took some time to get the crowd into songs like Antidote and Carrion, the most dancable tracks. But after a while they ate it up as if you played Worlock by Skinny Puppy. There is literally a rush to the dance floor. If you like songs that are the ultimate mood music, IO is the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good One From Pitchy, January 15, 2008
This review is from: Io (Audio CD)
Many people and myself, think that project pitchfork old stuff is their best work. Io should prove that with this groundbreaking album. At first it could be hard to listen to (if your new to project pitchfork) but like me it was awesome to listen to. The only compliant is that I wish it was longer, it's only 10 songs on this album. I love this album from beginning to end, Io is the best song on the CD it tells a story of breaking away from control. I would recommend any of their stuff before alpha omega; for new project pitchfork fan so you can get a taste of their work when they were in their prime.
