5.0 out of 5 stars simply beautiful
IO is the most beautiful album by this band which has been making good music for more than 10 years now. Their cds are usually not masterpieces, even though they contain many precious gems such as 'Souls', 'Conjure', or the most recent 'December Sadness' and 'Realm Center' or 'Carnival'; but there're two real masterpieces by this band: One is 'Eon:Eon'. 2.0 out of 5 stars Bland, amateur sounding
I didn't discover the band until 7yrs after this album, so my views might be different than others, but when you compare the song composition from this album to the likes of Front 242's dual releases only 1 year earlier, you'll find this album to be bland and amateur sounding, even for it's time. If it had come out perhaps 10yrs earlier, it would probably be considered...

5.0 out of 5 stars simply beautiful, March 3, 2001

IO is the most beautiful album by this band which has been making good music for more than 10 years now. Their cds are usually not masterpieces, even though they contain many precious gems such as 'Souls', 'Conjure', or the most recent 'December Sadness' and 'Realm Center' or 'Carnival'; but there're two real masterpieces by this band: One is 'Eon:Eon'. The other one is 'IO' After more than a minute long intro consisting of a female voice repeating 'Growing like Io in space', the typical industrial beat of Project Pitchfork begins; 'IO' (the song) is a perfect beginning which introduce us into the elegant universe of this work; this has nothing to do with Skinny Puppy, and this album can actually not be compared to any other; 'The Gate' is a beautiful song without a perceptible chorus in which the voice sounds clearer than ever, beautiful and showing that Spilles's voice contains many nuances even if it's raw. 'The Silverthread' sounds similar to the previous song but here Nigiani sings almost the entire song; and it really works ok 'cos her voice is beautiful enough to make me dream of angels, contrasting with the somewhat diabolic voice of Spilles. The industrial rhythms, raw and full of orchestration reaches its peak with 'Carrion', one of the best PP songs ever, with a catchy chorus and several changes in rhythm which make it a never-boring track. With 'The Seeker' PP introduce the first guitars in this work; in fact this song is divided into 2 different rhythmic sections which alternate each other; an acoustic guitar adds a different feeling to this song; 'Swamps of Secrecy' is a decent song but not one of the best; it brings the album back to the more industrial sound after the guitar parenthesis of 'The Seeker'; 'Terra Incognita' is a song with a strange rhythm but catchy anyway. And when the work seemed a bit to go down there comes another of the gems: 'Antidote'. Somewhat similar to 'Carrion' but different, 'Antidote' is one of their best efforts in blending industrial rhythm and baroque atmospheres. The work ends with another good song and an insipid instrumental called 'Conclusion' IO goes deeper than their previous works and fortunately there's not a bad song here, unlike in 'Lam-Bras' or 'Entities'. And carries Project Pitchfork to a peak very difficult to surpass; One of the best industrial works of the decade, at least for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars An industrial masterpiece, May 11, 2000

IO is one of those CD's that needs a bit of time to grow on you. As an industrial Dj, it took some time to get the crowd into songs like Antidote and Carrion, the most dancable tracks. But after a while they ate it up as if you played Worlock by Skinny Puppy. There is literally a rush to the dance floor. If you like songs that are the ultimate mood music, IO is the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good One From Pitchy, January 15, 2008
This review is from: Io (Audio CD)
Many people and myself, think that project pitchfork old stuff is their best work. Io should prove that with this groundbreaking album. At first it could be hard to listen to (if your new to project pitchfork) but like me it was awesome to listen to. The only compliant is that I wish it was longer, it's only 10 songs on this album. I love this album from beginning to end, Io is the best song on the CD it tells a story of breaking away from control. I would recommend any of their stuff before alpha omega; for new project pitchfork fan so you can get a taste of their work when they were in their prime.

4.0 out of 5 stars An awesome cd with a few flaws, August 6, 2000

Io is an excellent album if you can stand the one minute intro of a slow-motion talking woman, repeating: "Glowing like you're in space." Other than that and the song "silverthread," being just plain annoying at times, it's great. the tracks "Terra Incognita" and "Antidote" are amazing songs that drive PP to a new level of sound.

Definetely worth checking out

simply like nothing i've ever heard before. truly, an industrial contribution on the highest order. many of the tracks stand out as pure classics in my mind and if more than three tracks on any cd sound great, it's well worth the 15 bucks any day. buy it!

Project Pitchfork is simply amazing. Great Techno-Goth music with complex lyrics. Strange CD thats sounds like one giant song. Good CD for people who never heard of them before. Best tracks are IO, CARRION,ANTIDOTE, and SWAMP OF SECRECY. But thus cd is best listened to straight through.

3.0 out of 5 stars Glowing like lO...From space? Perhaps., August 10, 2003
This review is from: Io (Audio CD)
I think that Project Pitchfork is so diverse because it evokes an immense feeling of 'shock and awe' when you first hear it. There is truly nothing else in existence that can be compared to, or sounding like it.

There really is no specific genre that this music can truly fit into; as it has so many stark contrasts present in each song. A mesmerizingly freakish and at times almost sinister hybrid of shimmering Synth-Pop beats and grungy headbanger/mosh-like vocals and sounds. Think " Depeche Mode meets Korn" with the occasional dallop of industrial gothic, trance, and even techno. All of this blends into one trippy, futuristic alien concoction that is sure to leave your N'Sync worshipping, alternative radio- listening friends wondering whether you yourself, have landed from another planet.

Originality aside, this alien can pack a viscious bite, but is thoughtful and harmless beneath the surface. The albums lyrics all carry a dreamy, futuristic and/or celestial message, which diminishes this album's gothic appeal( try Alpha Omega instead ). I consider the whole futurist idea to be quite ironic because while the sound that Project Pitchfork brings us is relatively new and unknown, I predict it to be prett groundbreaking and influencial in the future. Within the next 10-15 years, I predict that this type of music will have 'landed' in the new pop/alternative forefront of our musical culture and society. And who knows what else may arrive with it in the future.

As for today, give this album a try if you're brave enough to try something radically different. Though it's not the band's very best as a whole, it does offer some of the bands most beautifully unique and intriguing songs( lO; the perfect opener to the album that sets the stage for what's in store next. The Seeker; with it's trippy vocals that progress into a harder sound, and Renascence; An unassuming poppy gothic-sounding song that is sure to intrigue you ) and the whole outer space theme works so well throughout. Give this cd a try along with Alpha Omega and Eon:Eon and after the second or third listen, when the shock and unfamiliarity with the band subsides, you may just find it to be so delisciously different and sinfully enjoyable, that once converted, you may never be the same again.

I'm a very jaded music fan, and even more jaded in the industrial genre. I'm very impressed with IO. This CD is great! Get it. It's not as manic as I like, so it's not great for dancing...but it's a great CD to groove to. Put it on and read a book, paint a picture, or have some great (...)!
