For more than twenty years, my fingernails have been soft and peeling off in layers like nail polish! I finally read about white iodine in Heloise's Hints. Within the first week of using it daily, the iodine bonded the peeling layers together! But took several months (until they had completely grown out to grow as strong and unbreakable as they are now. According to Heloise you're supposed to use it daily for one week and then after that once a week. I now (after a year and a half) only apply it once every two or three months! If you continue to use it too often it apparently makes nails too brittle!

I read about white iodine being good for your nails. I asked all our local pharmacies and department stores and couldn't find it. In fact our one pharmacy told me they couldn't get it in. I am using it on my nails now and they are improving.

The item was only a couple of bucks and the shipping was almost $8.00. For a small bottle of Iodine, that was too much.

I ordered Iodides, what received was a bottle of ammonia. Didn't save the shipping envelope. Any company that would send ammonia and not iodides ordered, not going to return payment. Will use this as a learning experience.

After many calls to local pharmacies and medical vendors, I finally found Colorless Iodine on your site. So excited, I ordered 4!!! Shipment was very fast, however, when I opened the bottle, it smelled like ammonia so I took the items to 2 local pharmacies to verifiy authenthicity. Both said the odor was a bit strong. One said it burnt her nose. Both said Decolorized Iodine Tincture should have the scent of "alcohol." Needless to say, I'm afraid to use it. Someone recommended Colorless Iodine but I've never seen it to know if this is normal, so I think I'm going to make contact and request a refund. Oh! I was so happy to receive the package, I placed some of the product on a couple of areas and it tingles. Afterwards, I smelled it. I know...backwards. Good luck to anyone who purchases it.

I wanted this product to put on my nails to strengthen them. I tried to find this at several drugstores; they did not carry this product.

It was so easy to find and order this product from Amazon. I received it in the mail quickly and am very happy with it. I just wish I would have ordered more than one bottle.

A recent magazine article praised colorless iodine as a nail strengthener, so I decided to try it. The writer said the product was very inexpensive and available at drugstores.

After many phone calls, I found it locally at only one pharmacy, at a price six times that mentioned in the article!

An online search located the product at a very reasonable price--even with shipping. I placed an order and received it in only a few days.

What a difference only a few applications have made! My nails are noticeably stronger, with no more splitting or breakage. My daughter tried the colorless iodine on her nails and has gotten similar results.

I highly recommend colorless iodine for problem nails.

I had run out of tincture of iodine. Looking for more I bought Iodides Tincture (decolorized iodine) at a supermarket. When I opened the container what a surprise. Ammonia! Very strong!

I know solid iodine is insoluble in most things so a potassium iodide solution is used as primer. That, in alcohol, will disburse (not dissolve) iodine crystals giving the characteristic dark color.

In this case, using stronger ammonia for the solvent plus an alcoholic potassium iodide solution will dissolve ammonium iodide to give a clear, ionic solution. Clever.

To check that it really is iodine, wet a tissue with hydrogen peroxide and put on it a drop of the iodides solution. In five minutes iodine is released and the the dark color develops.

For years I have been fighting toe fungus. In recent years I found that ordinary, cheap vinegar was properly acidic to promptly kill fungus, so I used that. It works well. I had thought about using iodine but toenail discoloration stopped me.

Well, now the answer was at hand so I tried using the Iodides Tincture for about a year. No color. I find it works well topically however a fungus spot developed under the nail and was not stopped by the either the Iodides or Vinegar on the surface. The regular tincture of Iodine slowly diffuses into the nail and has stopped that problem but of course I have a yellow toe nail.
