5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ for every woman, of all ages., July 9, 2006
By
This review is from: Iodine: Why You Need It Why You Can't Live Without It (Paperback)
This book is amazing. I am buying several more copies to give to friends and family members as gifts. It breaks my heart to know that so many women are dealing with health challenges when the solution is so simple. An easy way to better understand the relationship of what Iodine is to the Thyroid gland is... when you go to the laundry mat to wash your clothes and you load the machines but you do not have any quaters to run the machine...that is what happens in our bodies...the Thyroid gland is the washing machine and the Iodine is the quater(s) needed to properly operate thyroid function in our body. Without any quaters (Iodine) in the machine (thyroid gland) how can anyone get anything accomplished in life except nothing. This book will change your life or someone close to you...male or female.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Book Invokes a Renaissance in the Use of Iodine, December 12, 2007
This review is from: Iodine: Why You Need It Why You Can't Live Without It (Paperback)
Iodine, Why You Need It and Why You Cant Live Without It by David Brownstein MD is written for the lay reader, however, all health care professionals should find the information useful in clinical practice.

Brownstein says we are in the "Medical Dark Ages" concerning iodine supplementation, and his book attempts to invoke a Renaissance. David Bronstein MD has a clinical practice in the goiter belt of Michigan, and is involved with an ongoing iodine research project with Guy Abraham MD and George Flechas MD.

According to Brownstein, iodine is safe and beneficial, preventing not only goiter, but also preventing the many thyroid cysts, nodules and auto-immune thyroid disease rampant in the population. Iodine is anti-microbial, anti-parasitic, anti-cancer, important for hormone production, reverses fibrocystic breast disease, and shrinks ovarian and thyroid cysts. It may be our most important preventive measure against breast cancer.

The book dispels a number of myths about Iodine supplementation.

Myth number one: There is no iodine deficiency because of Iodized Salt.

The iodine in Iodized salt is not very bio-available, and government surveys show decreasing Iodine levels in the population. Brownstein found that 90% of his patients were iodine deficient based on a 24 urine test for excreted iodine after a 50 mg loading dose.

Myth Number two: Too much Iodine above the RDA of 150 mcg is not safe.

In reality Iodine supplementation is very safe. The average Japanese diet contains 12 mg per day which is 100 times the RDA in the US. In the event of a nuclear power plant accident, the government gives everyone 50 mg. of Iodine to prevent thyroid cancer.

A chapter is devoted to iodine deficiency and fibrocystic breast disease and breast cancer. Brownstein presents case reports of women with fibrocystic disease as well as breast cancer who benefit from iodine supplementation. Another chapter devoted to the thyroid describes patients with Graves' disease and Hashimoto's disease who benefit from iodine supplementation.

Iodine tablets are inexpensive and widely available as a nutritional supplement called Iodoral without a prescription. Another book, Breast Cancer and Iodine, by David Derry MD PhD, is also recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped many people with Iodine, October 15, 2007

This review is from: Iodine: Why You Need It Why You Can't Live Without It (Paperback)
I have helped many women with menopausal hot flashes with Iodine supplements. The iodine/iodide mix as is found in Lugols solution is ideal. Iodoral works and so does Standard Process's Prolamine Iodine. Just depends on the amount needed. Hypothyroid patients are who I am going after now in my practice and I can see promise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Information everyone needs, July 14, 2009

The research behind this information seems to be solid. I requested the iodine test from my physician. He was sure that my iodine levels were fine. But, he did arrange for the iodine loading test. Surprise! My iodine levels were low. I've been supplementing and we are still adjusting my thyroid meds. This book is worth reading.

This review is from: Iodine: Why You Need It Why You Can't Live Without It (Paperback)
AMAZING book that EVERY woman should read.

Too bad charities looking for the CURE for cancer NEVER mention Iodine deficiency.

I wonder why?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Hey, I just answered my own question.

P.S. Tested my body temp for 10 minutes in the morning BEFORE GETTING OUT OF BED just like the book said and was 96.2.
I have been taking Iodoral 12.5Mg along with ATP cofactor for a week and my CONSTIPATION IS GONE!
Amazing, since no matter how much fiber I ate I still had constipation.
