4.0 out of 5 stars Big, inexpensive, loud
Title sums it up; it's fairly quick for a network drive, easy to set up, a nice addition to a home computing environment with multiple systems or even a business needing to share docs. The downside is that the fan is VERY loud for a home environment...unnecessarily so. Note - this was written when it was on sale for $175.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent network drive which is cheap
I have been using this hard-drive for over 6 months now and overall it has worked fine. It solves the need for network drive.

Pros
1) Network drive with some cool features like user management (separate accounts, permissions, etc.)
2) USB printer port - sometimes sketchy but works
3) Cheap

Cons
1) Noise - it has multiple...

Pros
1) Network drive with some cool features like user management (separate accounts, permissions, etc.)
2) USB printer port - sometimes sketchy but works
3) Cheap

Cons
1) Noise - it has multiple fans that can get very loud. Sometimes you can even hear hard drive cranking through.. scary..
2) Heat - scares me sometimes that it will fail anytime. I shut it down every once in a while to cool it off.
3) Missing feature for it to auto-sleep.

It is a decent one if you can keep it somewhere in open where you don't need to worry about the noise and it can stay cool

It works a lot better than the WD 1TB MYBOOKWORLD, which I bought from Costco.

It never drops out from the network, and it is easy to set up.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too loud, unreliable performance, September 21, 2008

Immediately upon plugging in the device you realize how loud it is... you simply cannot keep this device in a room where you may be watching tv or trying to sleep.

The only solution to the noise I could find was turning the device off. That makes the device useless for automated backups or print server capabilities.

I noticed after leaving the device off for several days (couldn't stand the noise) that when powering it back on there was an extremely loud noise like a fan that was partially blocked or failing. Not good for a device less than 30 days old.

The print server is flakey at best. One of the major reasons for getting this device was the built in print server. Problem was the connection was not reliable over my wireless or wired network. At one point I had to reset the device to factory defaults to get the ability to print to the printer back.

There has to be a better solution....
