After flashing the firmware with an update from Iomega's own website, and following their instructions exactly, it bricked the device, and now it's completely useless. Iomega refuse to replace the device, even though it was their own update that broke it. I will never buy another Iomega product again, and hope to spare anybody else the same experience.

I bought this EZ 3 weeks ago since it was supposed to be simple and easy to set up.

It is NOT!

I spend several nights to get it to work on my MAC and failed. After a number of factory resets of the EZ and messed up permission rights on my MAC, I contacted the Iomega technical support via the forum. But they only advised to contact their telephone support ($25 per call).
I tried to solve the issue via the ONE to ONE chat but they could not help me either. After about one hour they advised to contact their telephone support ($25 per call!).

I decided to give up and use it just as an external HD, but every attempt to copy something with subfolders ends in an error.

On a positive note: I got the cloud function to work and when eventually (IF) I find a way to store something onto the device I will have access to it via internet.

Iomega advised that I cannot return it....!

I'll be quick. The device is marketed as compatible with Linux clients. It isn't. It
won't work. The only two network protocols available are CIFS (Windows File Sharing) and
rsync. And rsync doesn't work. Once you finally get the 32-bit storage manager program
installed (tough to do on a 64-bit machine (x86_64) like mine), you will learn that there
is no way to transfer files from your Linux machine to the NAS device.

Here's the email received from IOMega technical support department following my telephone
call:

"Thank you for using Iomega's Online Support Services. I sincerely apologize for any
inconvenience you may have experienced using your Iomega product.

Thanks for sending the dump file. I spoke to one of our advanced support group about the
problems you are having and he confirmed that the EZ Media is really not the right tool (no
NFS and an extremely limited rsync.) Check out the new IX2 (or for that matter one of the
earlier ix series devices.) They all have NFS and full rsync capabilities."

There you have it. They sold me a device advertised as supporting Linux and acknowledged,
after purchase, that it doesn't - but that the fix is to buy another device costing nearly
twice as much.

Chance are thin that we'll be purchasing any more IOmega products.

I've had this NAS for some time now. Upgraded to latest firmware and software whenever the case (a painfully slow process), but still have lots of problems with this drive.
It's attached to a 1Gb network with extremely light traffic. However, it seems to be busy all the time, even when all computers are down. I never used the personal cloud features, and, in retrospect, it's a good thing, as there's a "Security Risk Alert for Iomega network devices" notice on Iomega's site since Dec. 4. So much for personal clouds...
About the drive:

The Good: it looks good, it's quiet (except for the hard drive, which seems to be on almost all the time).

The bad:
Backup software (QuickProtect) sucks: It pops a large window asking for configuration each time I reboot the computer. Not too many config options.
The drive's built-in web interface is a complete disaster: extremely unresponsive (windows/frames sometimes take a minute to update).
Not much info on Iomega's website, to try to debug all these issues.

The ugly:
The drive is slow, at least with Windows 7. I am deleting 120,000 files as I write this review (240GB) and Windows predicts about 23 hours remaining. On a positive note, it took less to copy the data over to disk in the first place.

Conclusion: Find an uglier and noisier NAS, but which gets the job done properly.

When I started looking into getting the "Iomega 2 TB EZ Media & Backup Center (35541)" I researched it at Iomega's web site and then I came to Amazon to see what the consumer had to say. I was shocked at what I saw. I have bought other Iomega products and have never had a problem with them. I than read here how it is hard to set up and getting the cloud to work is not only hard but very time consuming. I also read how the item gets very hot while in use. All I can say is they must be talking about a different unit. The day I got the unit I took it out of the box and laid everything on the desk. The first thing I will say and agree with is the instructions that come with the EZ Media are useless. They might as well have thrown them away. Included was the unit, the power adapter, and a network cable. I plugged the cable into my router and plugged the unit in, the unit came on by itself once it was hooked up. I than installed Iomega's software and followed the directions. In less than 5 minutes I had my unit set up, configured, and my cloud all set up and ready to go. The upload and download speeds could be better but are doable. As far as the heating issue my unit runs very cool, and I have had it on since I set it up. The reason I only gave this four stars is because I find that the amount of time it takes to load the cloud home page is longer than I think it should be. I would tell anyone to buy this product without worrying. It is a fine product.
