I usually get drives based on WD but their portable 1TB drives have custom cable so if you lose it your SOL. I decided to try this drive for my macbook pro and it's perfect. Got 3 more for my family so everyone now has 1tb to use for timemachine, storage etc. Format most of it for Mac OSX but some for fat32 so i can swap files with windows people.

First one I purchased failed after about four months. Purchased another one thinking it was a fluke but the new one failed right out of the box with that dreaded click click click noise.

For one, I get to carry it wherever I go. This way I am sure my critical data is with me and will not be tampered. I am a frequent buyer of portable drives because of the nature of my job. And Iomega has never disappointed me till date! This time I got to purchase the Iomega eGo 500 GB USB 2 portable hard drive 34945. My office mate has this drive and I was really impressed by its design, the color and its ultrathin mold. Immediately checked different web sites to know the dimension of this device and it was just 2.1 x 7 x 5.1 inches! A true portable hard drive indeed and also installs quick. The silver color of this hard drive matches perfectly with my MacBook Air notebook. The compactness allows me to carry it anywhere but with the risk of dropping it. With the Drop guard, it is safe if the fall is a short one less than 5 ft. For Mac users, there is Trend Micro and I am worry free for atleast a year. The software is not a part of the package but has to be downloaded. I use the QuickProtect as I do not wanna miss any opportunity for safe backups.

Small, light, easy to use. Connected it to my Macbook Pro and hit one button. Got the carrying case too and it fits perfectly, even with the cord!

I got this hard drive a couple weeks ago and it has served me well so far. I have no complaints and it is more than enough memory for me to store my pictures, musics, documents and whatever else I may need. Its very light and small so it doesn't take up a lot of room. The price was good to for what I got. I have a mac and it works well with it.

Mine was failing the first day. It makes a clicking noise and then my lap top warns that I've "disconnected the device impropperly" but I've touched nothing. After failing, it eventually comes back around on its own, and is recognized. Day three it was still doing this, & the clicking sound during failure was getting louder.

Customer support. My product was under warranty on day 3, and I could chat with iomega tech support who told me this product needed to be replaced. It was not nice that I would be charged $25 to do the shipping. They built the faulty product, why am I the customer out $25?

Amazon was great - giving me a full refund on the Iomega hard drive and the travel case I'd bought for it (since I won't need that now). And their return shipping was only $8.25

I bought this external drive for my macbook pro...and I love it. I have a lot of family photos I have been trying to archive and this is exactly the storage I needed. Plus, I have a ton of other photo files, movies, games, music, etc... you get it.

So, I found the Iomega and loved the look of it, it matched my macbook, I bought it and I love it. Plug it in and you are ready to go. I bought the 500 gb. The transfers are fast.

The only downside that I can see is that the disk is locked. It took me a while to realize that was the issue. I was using bridge, trying to rename a folder of say 350 old slides and couldn't overwrite the files. Finally, I looked in get info for the Iomega and was able to unlock the whole disk and then rename everything. Not sure if that is something I will have to do ever ytime I use it or not, but now that I know it's not a big deal.

I got this item over a month ago. It just doesn't work. When I plug it, it starts making a clicking sound non stop. My computer can't see it, and it keeps disconnecting itself without me even touching it. I've tried everything, it just doesn't work. And, would I trust putting my valuable information in this machine? NO.

All right, I understand there are defective devices, and luckily the HD has a warranty. Oh but wait, they don't accept returns. What? Yes, even if the product doesn't work from the first time, you can't return it. You can't choose not to have it. Once you paid for it, you have to have it. Yes, they will exchange it, but, Why would I want this low-quality product? Not even if it was free I would want it. It's just unbelievable...My advice to you, pay a little more and get something decent, and also get to deal with a company with decent policies.
