5.0 out of 5 stars Nice drive...
I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality of the drive. Its constructed out of aluminum and has a nice sturdy feel to it. It installed no problem and within minutes I was backing up my desktop PC. I burned about 200G to it without issue. I also like the fact the there is no preinstalled software on the drive. I prefer to choose my own backup programs (Goodsync)...

1.0 out of 5 stars Iomega has disappointed
After this Iomega Prestige 500 gb failed today after 1-1/2 years of use, I've given up on Iomega. We do not abuse our hard drives, they are not transported, only used for backing up with Time Machine on our Macs using Snow Leopard. We have several networked Mac computers, and every Iomega external hard drive has failed within 2 years. One was replaced by Iomega, but that...

One was replaced by Iomega, but that one frequently has to be reformatted. We have followed the reformatting instructions on Iomega's website, changed cables, plugged directly into the USB port on the computers, but nothing has helped. The replacement Verbatim drives seem to be trouble-free, quiet and reliable. Sorry Iomega, but I simply can't recommend your external hard drives.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed in This Product, September 27, 2010
This review is from: Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34929 (Gray) (Personal Computers)
Buyer Beware:

Bought this external hard drive from Amazon in March of 2009. Here it is September, 2010 and this hard drive has already gone out.

Save your money, and don't buy this product.

I prefer to choose my own backup programs (Goodsync). However if you want the IoMega SW you can download it. I plan to keep it powered on and spinning for a few days to flesh out any mechanical problems. Take note that this drive neeeds external power and has some "heft" to it. So if your looking for a truly lightweight portable drive you should move on. If I encounter any problems I'll update my review. At this point it seems like an excellent buy...

The Iomega is great and easy. Just copy and paste or slide whatever you want to copy into Iomega and you are done. Same way you copy music into itunes, realplayer, and windows media.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive, and works fine, June 24, 2011

This review is from: Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34929 (Gray) (Personal Computers)
I use this drive as backup for my iMac. I plugged it in and hooked it up and it immediately got to work with Time Machine to back up the entire contents of my hard drive; and it has continued to do so for months now. If you use your computer as most people do, for e-mail, doing your finances, perhaps schoolwork, this little drive is perfectly adequate and reliable. There's no need to spend any more on a backup.

I've only used the device once since I got it (less than 1 year ago) and it's already broken. The device is entirely too fragile for everyday use. I once dropped the device from a distance of no more than 14 inches and the computer techicians have told me that fall is what likely did it in. Such a waste of money. I'm probably going to back to zip drives!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great External Drive, February 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34929 (Gray) (Personal Computers)
Great External Drive, it is too easy to use, just plug into USB port and instantly you have an extra drive for backups, or a working drive for your system. Some software is made available for free download, but you don't really need it if you're familiar with the Windows programs for backing up and/or copying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable hard drive, February 1, 2011
This review is from: Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34929 (Gray) (Personal Computers)
I have been using this for more than 2 years and there have been no problems with this hard drive. My children also keep all their important school data in this drive. Copying files, setting it to work and using for backups have all been easy. Using this as a reliable file store. If you need a neat little desk companion, go for this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and easy drive, January 25, 2011
This review is from: Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34929 (Gray) (Personal Computers)
This Iomega drive is great and easy. Had bought it for my children's usage. It was easy to install the drive. I could conveniently take the backup of more than 100GB stuff of my kids. They too find it easy to handle the drive. Looks wise, it seems to be sturdy and strong. Recommend this to the ones who like simplicity.

This Iomega hard drive is great and easy. All you need to do is just copy and paste or slide whatever you want to copy into Iomega and you are done. It has commendable storage space. Person with zero knowledge about drives also can use this hard drive very easily. It works great and is very fast. Best for home needs.
