My most loved external hard drive,

Working in IT, I go through a lot of these and this is the first model that I have really settled in on and loved. They look great, they're durable, and I've been very satisfied with their reliability and performance. Note that like most small external USB drives, you have to consume two USB ports to properly power it and get the best performance. It will work just using one USB, but plugging in the dual head will get best performance.
I use this almost daily to back up my PST file (email file from Outlook) from my work almost every day, copying 3 GB to it and from it almost daily.

Price, compatibility & reliability were the major objectives met in this purchase. Pleasant bonuses included a comprehensive Iomega web site, surprising speed for an external drive, solid operation on a PC using only 1 USB port and free, competent basic software.

I was a little skeptical about installing it on a Mac, but it worked out fine. I actually bought two and I use them every day. No problems--great product. I'm even thinking about buying one for my wife.

Died after 4 months,
This review is from: Iomega Prestige 250 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive 34277 (Personal Computers)
I've used a lot of external hard drives over the years and have never had one die this fast. It died after 4 months of normal/light use. Thank god I back up my data on multiple drives. I know there is a warranty on these, but I don't want a warranty. Then I have to worry about finding the receipt, returning it, worrying about some Iomega tech having access to my files (which could contain material non-public information for example), dealing with the delay while I wait, and just in general spending a bunch of time getting it replaced. Don't give me a warranty Iomega, just give me a drive that works and won't fail for at least a few years.

It is like any other 250 gb but its backup software and speeds are far better than other 250 gb drives. Very affordable cost. For a decent functioning, both USB ports should be used. Certainly worth the spend. These aside, an elegant design may have been an added attraction..

Though an on-off switch would hav added to the convenience factor, it is a Slick solution on the whole. Reliable and sturdy operational even with 1 USB.

I've had it for a little over 3 months. I haven't had any problems with it so far. I didn't even need as much space for all my photos/videos and documents.

Gave this to my wife for use with her MacBook.
Pros: Sturdy metal construction, fall-sensors, quiet. Cons: Mini-USB doesn't lock into place and occasionally it will lose connection (otherwise 5 stars).

The hard drive arrived the next day and was the answer to all of my back-up problems! It was extremely easy to install and use. It automatically backs up everything according to the time frame that you set for it. I would highly recommend this product.

Solid as a rock.
Easy hook up. Lots of room. Of course you can buy more if you want. You have to determine size. The size is great. Slips right into a pocket. It's made by Iomega. Great price. |
