4.0 out of 5 stars Iomega 34342 320 GB HD
The product is exactly as described and shipped very quickly (with regular ups shipping it arrived next day). I am extremely pleased with the overall transaction and quality of the product. I would recommend it. One issue that was addressed by a few users is very valid, this is the usb cable not fitting into the back of the drive well. It will become unmounted, fall...

3.0 out of 5 stars Iomega USB 2.0 320GB Prestige Portable HD
I have been using this drive for about a month now and it has worked very well. The data transfer rate tops out at about 20-25 MB/min. One thing that may not be obvious when you read about this drive is that it may require the use of two USB ports on your pc. The reason for that is extra power may be needed. I have used it successfully on a laptop and destop pc using just...

4.0 out of 5 stars Iomega 34342 320 GB HD, May 7, 2009
This review is from: Iomega Prestige 320 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive 34342 (Personal Computers)
The product is exactly as described and shipped very quickly (with regular ups shipping it arrived next day). I am extremely pleased with the overall transaction and quality of the product. I would recommend it. One issue that was addressed by a few users is very valid, this is the usb cable not fitting into the back of the drive well. It will become unmounted, fall out or not be recognized if the drive is bumped or nudged at all. To compensate for this I shaved off about a mm of the plastic around the male connector piece that inserts into the back of the HD and the fit is now excellent. You can practically hold it upside down by the cord and it will not come unplugged.

I have been using this drive for about a month now and it has worked very well. The data transfer rate tops out at about 20-25 MB/min. One thing that may not be obvious when you read about this drive is that it may require the use of two USB ports on your pc. The reason for that is extra power may be needed. I have used it successfully on a laptop and destop pc using just one USB port. The only concern I have with this drive is that the provided cable does not fit tightly enough into the drive and will easily become disconnected if the drive is moved around even just a little bit. In my opinion that is a big deal for a portable drive. Other than the connection issue it has worked very well for the last month. In the future I would probably buy a different brand based on the poor physical connection between the cable and drive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Iomega 500GB Portable Hard Drive is Great, February 28, 2009

The Iomega 34169 500GB USB 2.0 Prestige Portable Hard Drive not only met my expectations, but exceeded them. It's been bother having to lug a standard external drive around while on vacation, but the physical size of this drive, not to forget the 500 GB capacity, more than meets my needs. This was a great purchace at a great price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cable issue is fixed..., December 7, 2009
This review is from: Iomega Prestige 320 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive 34342 (Personal Computers)
I just bought two. On both the cable is snug as a bug in a rug. Doesn't shake loose even when hanging from the computer by the cable. Iomega must have fixed the prior problems. Dec 6, 2009.

I've only had a few hours so not much to say yet. It's similar weight to WD Passport Elite I was considering (.4 oz heavier). And 1" longer but no wider or deep. (The Elite was a black Friday purchase & had major defective sectors out of the box.)

Makes a funny buzz-humm if I turn it upside down (while turning, not after turned). Anyone else hear it? Does it imply a problem?

It plugged in, no annoying software trying to load. Nice two port cable so you use the main one (not the secondary feed off the main one). That 2nd port is nice if going to library & they happen to have older computers that are underpowered for current harddrives & need power from an additional 2nd USB port.

Currently I'm testing with H2testw software (available free online) to see if any bad sectors, & gives rough idea of write/read speeds. It's not audibly humming as it's working (till I put my ear to it).

It completed no errors, estimated write/read of 24.5/31.2 of files 1GB large until harddrive was full. It took 3 & half hours to write.

Brushed silver doesn't hold finger prints.

1.0 out of 5 stars poorly made and worse customer service, December 8, 2008
By
This review is from: Iomega Prestige 320 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive 34342 (Personal Computers)
I purchased the 320gb Iomega "prestige" drive against my better judgment since I have recently had poor results from Iomega drives (two failures in three months.) This drive is not prestigious but is instead a low end poorly made drive. The usb female port in the drive is poorly made and does not hold onto the male end of the cable. I could I suppose attach some electrical tape to the cable and try to secure it to the drive, but that sounds like a poor choice when we're talking about important date transfers. So I called customer service, they said, sorry, we can only exchange the device (no refunds) and I had to pay the return charges. Tried to speak to a supervisor, but he was "unavailable" (after a five minute hold). These are tough times and those sort of answers are a clear signal (along with a shoddily produced product) that Iomega is not the company that one wants to use these days for data storage. So potential buyers BEWARE.

1.0 out of 5 stars Iomega 500gb Portable Hard Drive, January 7, 2010

I bought this item to replace a 500gb portable hd that I had already used up. When it first arrived, the USB wire didnt connect it to my computer, it kept on falling out. Then, after about three month, I suddenly stopped working. I tried it with different USB cables, different computers, and all those stuff but it doesnt even show up. It was a complete disaster as I had about 400gb worth of data on it but its too expensive to retrieve it.

Great Value and seamless installation. I just plugged it into the USB port and and everything installed automatically. It even came with a system backup software package that has many options for backing up your entire system or partial backups. Right now I have 3 complete system backups and still have over 400 GB of free space. The hard drive is small, sturdy and reliable. You can unplug it and take it with you in a matter of seconds. I would recommend this to anyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage...DO NOT BUY THIS HARD DRIVE, August 29, 2009
I could not believe that right out of the box this hard drive gave me problems. After a brief formatting I tried to transfer a few gigs of data and as it started transferring I very delicately moved the drive slightly about four inches and it crashed. I tried to transfer the data a second time and with even the slightest movement, the drive crashes. Now, it is going back and this piece of sh@#t will be out of my life. believe me, there are better drives out there where the connector cable isn't so sensitive.
