Not as good as they say it is...,

This review is from: Iomega QUIKTOUCH VIDEO BURNER 16X ( 33067 ) (Personal Computers)
I have bought this device on july 2005 with the idea of saving my favorite shows from my satelite TV. Well, that is not possible with this device, you have to capture to a PC first and then burn the DVD. If that's ok with you, you are clear so far. Now, there is no way to run the included software if you have Windows Media Player 10 or later. On the device specifications you find that you need WMP 7 or later, well, I had 10 and it didn't work, on their support page they suggest you to downgrade to v9, if that's ok with you, you are clear. So, I haven't been able to use it yet, not for tv capture or to record my MiniDV tapes into a DVD. If you can wait, wait for a better version, perhaps one that works smoother.

Quite Disappointed,

This review is from: Iomega QUIKTOUCH VIDEO BURNER 16X ( 33067 ) (Personal Computers)
I've owned several Iomega products and found them to be very handy and easy to use, which is why I was so disappointed with the QuickTouch. The software provided by Iomega to run the burner is completely useless. I've attempted to install it on three different systems (2 with Windows 2000 Professional and 1 with Windows XP Professional). I've been unable to get the software to run properly on either of the 2000 systems and was unable to even complete the install on the XP Box. The technical support people at Iomega were quite nice but completely clueless about their product and of absolutely no help. After spending 15 minutes running through the "are you an idiot" questions (Did you plug it in? Do you have a USB Port? Did you follow the instructions?..) the best they could offer was "It should install automatically...". When I told them I knew that but the install program hangs up and never completes they responded "But it should install automatically on Windows XP..." - No help at all.If given another chance I would not buy the product again. It makes a nice CD ROM player, but I could have got that from someone else at a quarter the cost and it would have been half the size. I'm quite disapointed and will not purchase from Iomega again.

Does not/will not record backup copies of commercial DVDs,
This review is from: Iomega QUIKTOUCH VIDEO BURNER 16X ( 33067 ) (Personal Computers)
The Iomega Quiktouch, (All models 8X 12X 16X) looks great and (after reading its rather impressive technical information) sounds great, "but", and its a big "BUT" the Iomega, states in its cd based tech manual, and also when I called "Iomega" for their answer to this issue, they confirmed that it does not support copying of commercial DVDs, this means that you cannot make any backup copies of any DVD with copyright, and rightfully so, I hear some of you say, "but" after spending big bucks on a DVD then letting my Kids handle it for a week it becomes an unusable DVD, thats why the industry allows for one copy for your own personal use, and besides that why does it then allow you to turn all your commercially recorded/copyrighted videos into DVDs!!??The Companies that are selling this item (and Iomega) should include this rather important info along with the rest of the technical data, as opposed to a single sentence buried deep in a "technical manual"!!
