I got this for backup because I wanted storage without having to buy more external hard drives. They are nice because they are small enough to fit in a shirt pocket, and the transfer rate is excellent. It's more expensive than buying hard drives, but I like the fact that the disks are separate from the head, so the disks won't fail like hard drives have a tendency to do.

Had this product recommended by the IT department that manages my office data. Initially was concerned due to Iomega's past zip drive's "click of death". But so far (3 months) the product has been working flawlessly. A little pricey but allows me to backup data on a daily basis onto separate disks.

I wanted a device for backups where I could still remove the physical media. NAS is great, but if you are serious about a backup plan, you need to store physical backups offsite. This was replacing a tape drive that was taking ~6 hours to backup 40GB.
My 6 hours was trimmed to roughly 45 minutes, and the unit has been performing flawlessly for a month now. So I pay less than tape but it works much faster. Great buy. |
